CZ Ambi Safety progress?

I know that NEA makes an ambi safety for the CZ, and it's a good effort but I'm wondering if anyone's looking at improving the safety paddle designs. The stock ones are functional, but it would be nice to have a larger, positively checkered or lined surface to engage.

It would also be nice if someone could look at the angles of the paddles - the stock ones are a bit of a stretch for the thumb, and a different angle might make them faster and easier to manipulate.

Thoughts, anyone?

Haha, I don't mean to denigrate the work you're doing Charles - you've made some good steps forward for the CZ in Canada. I was just wondering what the next step is, especially from you - I know you're always improving your products.

Care to share what the next phase might look like?

you mean what prototypes are sitting on my surface table and what sketches are sitting on my drafting table???????? Tritium sights, VZ quad rail, a couple new brakes, a rem 1187 and Mossberg 500.

?? I don't think it will. I don't mean significantly wider, but something with a checkered or lined engagement surface that's slightly larger than stock would be great. The factory safety is okay, but it's small and can be hard to hit with gloves.

I love the tunable angle on your current revision. I would think that a more positive engagement surface would be a great match to the current layout, and would make it more practical.

You think so? I've used a few myself and I know the reason they aren't big, from experience. I'm not saying you need to weld quarters onto the selector - just a slight increase in size and a positive surface.

I agree. The original lever has the wrong shape and angle. I'm a lefty and to engage the selector with the thumb is great to place it in the "on" position but a different story when taking it off. If it had a slight rearward sweep to it and shaped a bit better and possibly a little bigger I could flick it into the "off" position with less effort. As it sits right now, the lever is engaged by the top of my thumb and it can't be moved without changing my grip. Your design of having the operator select the possition of the selector IMO is not the answer and can lead to other issues. I have not played with your design, nor have I seen one but the discription I have does not, to me, seem to be the right answer. Additionally, to essentially improve the selector by allowing for multiple placement and keeping the original paddle design seems a little unfinished. If you want to improve it, redesign it but keep it simple.

Just my $.02.
