Hey guys and gals,

First time on the site, just wanted to ask if any one actually know if there is a substantual gane of volocity for a 30-06 with a 28" barrel? You hear alot of claims but it is hard to know what's true if you don't have all the equipment to mesure it properly.

I'm just curious, even if there is no real difference the "pro hunter" still shoots tighter than any other gun I own or have owned.

Roughly 50 to 100 fps per inch over 24". Doesn't make a great deal of difference to game. They don't know or care how long a barrel is. Mind you, a 28" barrel isn't exactly handy. Dandy for hunting out of a blind though. Think 165 grain hunting bullets. The '06 loves 'em and they'll kill any game you care to hunt.

28" isn't a long barrel when the gun has no "action" to speak of. Same length or shorter even. It will also depend on the powder used. If its a fast powder, then it will be burned before the bullet reaches the end of the barrel, acceleration will cease, and friction of the remaining barrel may even slow the bullet down 50-100 f/s. This can be remedied by using a slower powder to maximize the advantage of the extra 4-6 inches of barrel to keep powder burning until just before bullet release.

My T/C Encore Pro Hunter with a 28" barrel is some 3 inches shorter overall than my Tikka T3 Lite with a 24" barrel.

The only slight drawback for me is a follow up shot but with practice, I'm able to keep the time as low as 5 seconds between shots.

I like it, it's easy to carry and I can't think of too many times a fallow up shot was on point. Pretty much I hit it or I don't. So far more hits than don't.( my fingers are crossed)
