Paying taxes sucks! We know! But here is a chance to get a break from the new HST.

If you live in Ontario, BC, Newfoundland/Labrador, Nova Scotia, or New Brunswick, you already know you have to pay HST. For a limited time, if you make a purchase from Moreguns Supply, we will only charge you the equivalent of GST. (5%) Simply say "charge me only GST" when you make your purchase and it's good as done.

soo if i buy somthing from you your going to save us the equlivalent of the pst thats 8%.
So being its against the law to say your going to not change us the pst.
what your offering for ontario customers is 8% off pre tax,
So on an $1000 order normaly you should charge us hst which would be $130 in tax
But now my $1000 order would be $920 + 13% HST total of $1039 ??

From an accounting standpoint. the logic here is correct.

Business don't charges taxes, they only collect them. A business can choose not to charges taxes however they still have to collect them and remit them to the province and/or the Feds when they demand them. Definitely not illegal to say you're not going to charges taxes on a purchase.

It works like this:

If your purchase is $1000.00, and your HST is 13%, the HST total is $130.00. Your total invoice will be $1130.00. If you were only charged GST, the GST would be $50.00. Total then would be $1050.00. We pay the $80.00 difference. You pay the $1050.00. Simple simple.

The main issue is the wording that is used. Several years ago a number of large stores were brought to task for advertising " no sales tax ". Actually what they meant & should have stated was that they were prepared to lower the pre tax price and the the added taxes would make the tax included price the same as pre tax.

The end result is that the price is the same " as if no sales taxes were added " but arrived at by a different method.

Which is why the title of the thread says "we will only charge you the GST." We're paying the rest of the tax owing instead of charging the customer for it.

I,m sorry i simply dont beilive you.
You going to pay my tax,s...
what your saying is you going to sell me $1000 worth of goods, which would be $130 in HST, only collect from me $50 in HST, and you going to give CRS $80 in HST out of your own pocket.
Why on earth would you do that.

I stood behind an old bitty once who spent minutes arguing with a minimum-wager about "you said I would save the taxes, but here they are on my receipt" "Yes, ma'am, but you'll see we discounted the price to cover the taxes - in fact, the total rounds off to slightly less than the before tax price" "I don't care, you said I wouldn't have to pay taxes, so I want them gone" (If another cashier hadn't opened up, another minute or two and I wouldn't have left enough of her to identify her DNA...) Whiney-ass people like that need to get off my planet.

Good to see spirited discussion going on here, but let's not quibble over whether the store will pay someone to re-write their invoicing software to fit whatever taxes people feel comfortable paying...

Just sayin'

I am still charging you all the taxes, I am just choosing to pay a portion of it rather than collect it from you.

I want draw clients to our business to buy from us who didn't take advantage of buying out of province when they had the chance. Now, they have the chance.

Proof is in the purchase. Buy something from me to see for yourself.

Why don't you just say 8% off everything in stock for a limited time and save trying to explain to everyone.

$1000 x 13% = $1130.00 - 8% OFF Sale = $1080.00

Just my 2 cents!

It's simple. If you pay HST in your province, we're only charging you GST. Almost 100% of everyone knows what GST is and what HST now is. People want to continue to pay the previous tax rate and not the new one. That's the draw.

This is BEAUTIFUL! The guy is offering an 8% discount to anyone who's interested, and he ends up getting attacked over semantics! It's money YOU save, no matter how it's written, if I find ANYTHING unethical in all of this, it's when ANOTHER retailer starts the attack.

Not an attack just asking how hes going to do it.
I have seen vendors do this before.
When you get the invoice its you find an invoice thats been ajusted pre tax.
I,m asking is its a price ajusted pre tax or hes offering to pay 8% of my HST, if so how?

I applaud you sir........

Great way to get customers, and a win win for all

When I started a thread on sponsors giving a break to members here, I was all but laughed at, and was put down countless times and ways

and yet

here you are basically offering exactly almost the exact thing I was trying to get across, might be for a short time, but, it's still money saved

I will be checking out what you have to offer, and see if I can pick something up, maybe even if I don't need anything at the moment.

Thanks......

and I really don't see why any other retailer is questioning how or why, you are dong this.

and no I am not saying other sponsors/retailers do not offer a discount, so let's not go there

Fantastic deal Sean,

Fantastic deal to be had especially since you already offer more then reasonable pricing on your goods. Good job on taking advantage of the HST for the purposes of generating some good solid business.

Sometimes to make some good money its just as simple as knowing how to spend it!
