We found this poor girl inside a game preserve near someones house, somebody shot her jaw apart, I understand these things happen but you can reduce the chance by leaving the head alone. The target is to small to get prefection every time.

We tried calling a game wardon to get permission to shoot her inside the preserve and tried to contact the land owner as well but couldn't reach either, so unfortunatly we had to leave the poor girl alone. I wish there was something else I could have done.

I don't like seing anything like this happening to any animal, this poor doe suffered a large amount, because someone thought they were a sniper, it didn't have to go down like that. I want to try to get the word out there, and convince people headshots are NOT the way to go!

Anyone who knows a head hunter should see this video.

Always aim for the boiler room! Much larger target, less room for mistakes!

I witnessed a hunt party member make a shoot like that on a Cow Moose, luckly another Member finished her 30 seconds later, He got his pee pee slapped back at camp, and we still tease him. Make a clean quick human kill.

poor girl, i'd've had a hard time not putting her out of her misery.

Well considering she was around 20 ft from a house, really made it that much worse......trust me I felt awful about leaving but unfortunatly it was the lesser of the evils. I later on spoke to a consevation officer and he said I did the best thing, but I still find it hard.

I've seen it several times. Usually the deer is stunned for a couple of seconds, enough for another shot if you're lucky. If they recover enough to run, they can go for a few days before dehyration gets them.
I was taught to be very conservative with my shots, no moving deer, etc.
I can't believe how careless some people are with just blazing away at running deer, or freehand longrange shots. Anyone can screw up, but we should be scared of doing it. Shocking footage, and a timely reminder as we approach the season. You're shooting at a live animal, there is no room for mistakes.

While I appreciate the message, posting that on youtube is not doing hunting any favours. Ill thought out... Good message, WRONG medium, 99% of youtubers haven't hunted in their entire life, and never will. Just shows the ugly side of our sport, the side that as you mentioned, doesn't need to happen. Here on CGN, other hunting forums, perfect place to share still shots, even vids from a personal host.

Every hunting video on youtube has #####es whining about the ethics of hunting, this one wont make any difference.

Poor doe, I think I would have walked up to that house and asked in person if it would be alright to finish her off.. or as bomb said, better to ask for forgiveness than permission in this instant IMHO

1.2" group from the bench doesn't make you a sniper in the field in the rain, through the trees, with adrenaline through the roof!

That'd be real hard to see and not do anything about.

I take head shots when the situation is right. If I think its iffy then I don't

sometimes all you get is a head shot as the body is behind a big tree, and at 50m on a deer thats not moving and looking directly at you its easy to plant one into its brain.

Now as for the one in your video thats a different story, thats someone taking a shot when they should'nt have and it is irresponsible.

Most of the head shots I have seen pulled off were pure luck. The doe in the video was likely shot by some dude just trying to hit the thing. Another inch or so up and over and it would have been a clean kill ... and the guy would have been bragging about his shooting. I have never taken a head shot at any big game animal and probably never will. Just wait for the animal to turn broad side or facing and shoot for the "boiler room".

i have never seen a animal last very long after being hit behind the front legs , in the lungs . the farthest i've seen them run is maybe 50 yards .

compared to the animal living days , maybe even weeks after having their jaw blown off my some ass trying to do a head / neck shot .

this may ruffle some feathers , but people who do a head / neck shot as the FIRST shot on a animal need to give their head a shake .

i can not see this as being a issue with any conservation officer , if a person where to put the animal out of it's misery , doccument why it was put out of it's misery , dress the animal so someone can use the meat , then phone the game warden and ask for instructions as to what to do with the carcas.

I saw a deer like that in side and elk fenced pasture, bottom jaw hanging down like that, but nobody had shot her, There were coyotes, cornering her against the elk fence, i presume the coyotes did that the her.
I got one of the yotes but they probaly came back and finished her off in the night,
I know she was not shot because the elk fence is right next to my place.
My wife seen it from the house, she has no problem with me shooting coyotes after seeing that, the doe never had a chance to get away because of the elk fence,
