I just sent an EMT for $159 to Clay for a Redfield 2-7, to be shipped with my rilfe. I'd been hymming and hawing about what scope to mount. When Clay said $159 for a brandy new Leupold made, lifetime warranty, Redfield it made my decision much easier.
I just got an older steel tube Weaver 6x back from Trace in Calgary after a rebuild, new lenses and recticle. It's either that or a new Leupold 6 x 42 gloss. And the reason for gloss is so it matches the blueing on the Ruger rifle.
Clay says the guns should be shipped to us next week so expect a shortage of 303 ammo comming soon to gun shop near you. David.
I had a No 1 a while back and had some trouble getting a scope that I could actually get close enough to my eye to see the full lens. Found a Nikon scope that had about 3in longer barrel than the Leupy I tried to mount on it. Bushnell was no better but the Nikon was an easy solution. 30yr warranty and likely the best optics in the price range is pretty easy to swallow. Was my first Nikon and I now own 5 plus my original Leupy VXIII
I have a Weaver 2-7 Micro-Trac that just came back from Trace scope repair, total overhaul, and the scope looks great! Would look even better on one of those 303s.
Suggest you look carefully at the length of tube on the scope to see if there is enough adjustment to get it close enough to your eye. Because of the location of mounts on a No 1 the scope is farther ahead than on a typical action and you may not be able to get it close enough. I struggled with several brands till I found that one Nikon that actually had more than enough tube to allow for correct placement.
I have purchased a Ruger #1 303 as a gift for my son & I have a Bushnell Trophy 4-12x40 wide angle scope would it be ok to have it mounted on this rifle...thanks
