Need Help Deciding! $2000 to spend! Gotta be .223!

I am looking into getting a range toy in .223, and want to as much accuracy as I can get, for my money!

I am very interested in a Stag Arms Model 6 which claims 1/2 MOA from the factory, but wondering what I can do with a bolt gun.

I am not looking to have to order any custom barrel or be on any waiting lists for that matter!

This will be used strictly for bench and prone shooting!

Does the $2000 include optics? Tax?

If you have $2000 before tax to spend on a rifle and optics, maybe go with this:

It's a little over $2000, and you'll still need to factor in a mount, rings and tax, but it'd be a solid setup.

Tikka T3 Tactical. Best out of the box performance. Or the Super Varmint. It is stainless but no threaded muzzle

If you want customizable the 5R Remington like AR180 posted would be my next choice.

If you $2000 includes optics than you're looking at about $1400 for rifle max

as "ok" optics will run you at least $500-$600

I'd get a Savage + swap the barrel = the end

If you went Savage with a custom Shilen barrel, you can get into the 1's and 2's with quality ammo.

Off the shelf, you are really limiting your accuracy potential. 1/2 min would be about the best I would expect from any factory rig BUT actually getting it is a luck of the draw.

If you must have factory, I would also suggest the TIKKA line up. 8 twist and usually very good shooters.

Factory Rems and Savages are nice but you are really rolling the die on performance. None are worth $2000 for a factory rig regardless of the bling that is attached.

with an AR, that is an uphill battle and as good as some are, a quality bolt rifle will outshoot it with the same dollars spent.

If you have $2000 for just the rifle, you can have a full meal deal custom.

If that includes optics, a rebarreled Savage topped with a 36X SII Big Sky Sightron will provide some very impressive performance.

My issues with buiiding my Stevens are:

1) Its pretty damn accurate already

2) Finding a stock for the new action is a pain in the ass

3) Waiting 6-8 months for a barrel is not fun

Spending alot of money on something you will later swap, change or sell at a loss is likely a worse evil.

If you want a shorter turnaround, McGowen is around 3 months and make good shooting barrels.

There is a reason Shilen has a backlog and they aren't taking any holidays.

My custom made AR is well under 2K with 24X optic and will shoot like this at 200M
The Downsides , need to shop around and wait for parts to keep low cost. consistency is hard to achieve , Restricted, And weird look from other benchrester until they see your target (thats not a downside ).

I do want to buy a bolt precision .223 to shoot further then 200m, since my range max out at 200M and my rifle is restricted.

I'd get a savage long range precision varmiter in .223 with the DM, sell the bbl for about 250$ then put a Shilen select match on it with long throated chamber like the wylde. Nice part is if you win the savage bbl lottery you will have a shooter to use while you wait for your shilen. If you are into used you can get a custom in your price range. I bought a barnard s action with a kelby trigger, robertson stock and McClellan bbl for 2500$

Mark save your money and get one made similar to one of these.
The blue one will shoot 69gr,80gr, & 90gr Sierra,s and Bergers under.250"
I have been there with manufactured rifles the barrels are to short for F Class at 1000y in FTR class can,t get enough speed, and chambers are to short for the 90gr bullets. That target was a 50 4x the sighter was a x

This Green one is a Rem 40x action and 28" Hart, on a new Robertson thumbhole stock I have seen this gun shoot 3 5 shot groups at 300 y
.600" ,.617" & .678" and a 5 shot group at 100 just under .2"
You can build one of these under $3000 + scope, build time app: 8 to 10 weeks

remington 40x 223. you can shoot it anytime you want, unlike the ar15 needing a permit.I am building one out of a new barrelled receiver and CMP surplus stock. New stocks are hard to find, so I have to go with the CMP refinished ones.

The best buy is the Varmint SS, price wise, muzzle break Threading the barrel is easy to do, even Metric. I don't understand why some would pay for the SuperVarmint? at a price of $1600 and the cheek piece can be adjusted, if you wanted a nice cheek piece, get a solf one from Eagleindustries, it can carry extra ammo, and zipper pouch.
