Seems like the .260 Rem is getting lots of attention here lately. Here's another one that I picked up from Rick (ATRS) in person while he was shooting in Chilliwack.

Specs:

- Bedded and free floating;
- Ted Gaillard 1:8 stainless, Rem varmint contour, 24" barrel;
- Seekins DBM;
- Badger bolt knob;
- B&C A5 adjustable stock;
- Tuned Rem trigger;
- Matte black Cerakote;
- Leupold Mark IV base and rings;
- Leupold VXIII Tactical 4.5-14x50 30mm tube

Range test to follow!

Due to Summer vacations and work, I hadn't had time to shoot this rifle since picking it up from Rick.

Finally went shooting today. While doing some research, I found that H4350 seems to be the powder of choice with 140gr bullets. I loaded some A-Max, Scenars and SMK, 5 of each with charges of 42.5gr to 44.5gr in 0.5gr increments. This should give me an idea of what kind of velocity I'm getting and which bullet has potential. Kind of a small ladder test.

I do the same thing with my hunting rifle with good results.

This is what I ended up with!?

Are match type bullet more sensitive to different powder charges? Could my rifle hate H4350 that much? This rifle and scope combination was shooting 0.5" group when it was a stock .308 LTR.

here's the load that many tactical competition shooter's use... as well there's a bunch of us locally using this load in our 260's with outstanding results... 41.5 gr. of H4350 with bench rest or G.M.M. primers and 142 SMK's ....

I get decent performance in my 1:8 twist with 142SMK's seated .010 off the lands with 44.3gr of H4350 and CCI BR-2 primers...Rem bulk brass.

I wouldn't fiddle with powders or anything before going through that rifle butt to muzzle very carefully.

There is something very wrong for a rifle like that to shoot big groups, regardless of powder.

the stray #1 shot particularly makes me believe something is not right.

Generally speaking match bullets typically have a longer bearing surface and can be more tempermental to changes in powder. That being said it looks like you have some good potential up there on the higher end loads. I usually use .2gr increments and 10 rounds at 200 yards if doing a ladder test.

I wouldn't touch the rifle yet, i went through a very similar process. I just had to find the bullet that my barrel liked. I went from 4 MOA groups to a .488" 5 shot group. I kept the same powder and seating depth , and then refined my powder charge to where i was comfortable. here is the thread to the whole ordeal.

feel free to contact me if you want more details on how this process went.
