Well, in my constant quest to find the gun god made me for I am now looking at 1911 with these specs:

.45acp single stack
Railed
Commander length
Bobtail
Pref. Steel (finish does not matter, although I would prefer black)

Does it exist? Anyone have a recommendation? Price needs to be under 1500 if possible, if not well, recommend it anyhow...budgets are always just guidelines!

You've just described a Dan Wesson "CBOB" (minus the rail)...

This is more inline with what you want, if you are willing to pay I'm sure you could get it here no problems...

I am checking out the fusion website now, very interesting company...that pic is exactly what I am looking for.
 
It looks to me like it would be awesome, I am not sure why it does not seem to exist! I will continue searching for a stock model that has those features. I guess...if I had to....I could give up the rail....but I am not giving up yet!
 
Ed Brown could make one for you, but seriously.....a rail can be added to any 1911 as noted, or you could get one built for you, which might not be as expensive as you think. I'm sure Jo Dlask or Roger Kotanko could put together the exact gun you're looking for.

I just fired off an email to dlask to get an idea of what sort of cost/timeline I may be looking at. If I do decide to build it through them I will have to come back and discuss the internals. The one of a kind 1911 Newshot Signature Series has a catchy sound to it. I would still prefer to find a stock version of these specs although I don't mind paying some cash for a great quality custom gun. It would just necessitate selling one or two others off instead of adding to the collection.
 
Looks like Caspian lists commander as an option for their recon frame,
pretty easy to bobtail.

Just curious, why the bobtail? There are a lot of very nice commander sized 1911's in your price range, many of which can be found with a rail and the rest can easily be modified with a Dawson rail; either by yourself or by a competent gunsmith. The bobtail is a bit trickier to find in your price range... But then, as pointed out, you could always buy your dream gun, have it bobbed (cut and a new bobtail MSH fitted and installed) by a competent 1911 'smith then get it refinished...

For what it's worth, I have owned a bobtailed commander and really didn't like shooting it compared to a commander with a normal gripframe and flat MSH. But that's just me...
 
Why the bobtail? Well, I like to work on guns with a specific purpose in mind...even if that purpose will never be realized. It makes it more enjoyable for me to work on them. So this would be like my dream carry gun.

I may go the route of getting something bobbed. If I can afford it I like the idea of handpicking every part though too. Lots of possibilities right now :)
