I have a mint #4 with bubba wood. I also have a nice set of Mk2 wood.

So far as i cn see, the only difference is the screw that goes across the wood, above the trigger area on the Mk2, whereas the Mk1 has a strap. Any reason why the Mk2 wood cannot be used?

Well everything can be done but it takes some work.

1. In the Mk1 The metal "strap" fits in recesses on each side and is held in place with a brass rod. There would then be a bit of woodworking required.

2. There's a chunk of wood found in the middle whereas for the Mk2, there's none (because that space is occupied by the the part that is added to the receiver and that supports the trigger). This "chunk of wood" needs to be shaped properly otherwise it'll screw up a variety of things (trigger action, for one).

But, it can be done. I did it once for the fun of it. I find that it is easier to do the reverse (take a Mk1 forend and turn it into a Mk2). But it's easier to find the proper forend, of course :)
