Recently I got a bunch of mags to try in my Russian SKS. I have shot the fixed mag pinned to five and it worked well. I shot the Tapco 20 rounder pinned to five it it was also fine. Had some issues with a ProMag 40/5 (actually pinned to 3, not sure why) and it need some sanding to feed properly. Have not tried the metal duckbill mags yet. Would like to know what people think about the mags they have tried.

I just can't see the point of having a magazine bigger than the capacity you can legally hold,if I could cut down the existing pinned 10 rd magazine to 5,so it would carry better,I would

The fixed 5 round spotter model from Norinco makes this rifle 1 slick rig;

chopped tapco is the best way to go 5/20 flawless mags and without the ugly duckbill on it it is great . do the bolt mod too if you are using mags.

Yes the Norinco 5 rounder's are out there but they are hard to find. Also you can cut down your 10 rounder to make it a 5 rounder. No Problem.

where and how do you cut down the hinged 10 rd fixed mag to 5?It must be on an angle and end up flush with the bottom of the stock ,I would think

I bought a metal duckbill mag...it sucked. the last 3 rounds where always jamming (3 jams out of 5 rounds...pretty bad ratio) I had to take the mag apart and sand the inside

I've heard good things about the tapco mags so I'll stick with that !

really? I've got a metal duckbill mag 5/20 and its been working good(not one jam). I can't speak for any other mags as I've never had or used them.

My original Norinco 10rd no jams whatsoever. The twenty rounder Norinco would make the rifle double tap the last two rounds. Switched back to the original. I've tried the five round Norinco and it works fine. Not much experience with the duckbills. Have them in 30 round but only tested one no name metal and one polymer. Worked OK from what I remember but hard to load. Not worth the investment in four of them IMHO. Not sure how any of these would work neutered though. :nest:

Will have to try the TAPCO one soon. Afterall the company is practically next door to me.

satain-do you cut the top of the 10 rd mag down?and do you cut it on an angle -or straight across?I'm assuming you would have to cut it on an angle as the bottom front is hinged .Do you have any pictures of a cut magazine,or a reference to a tutorial that could be posted?it makes sense to cut it to 5 rds and it would carry better,hopefully it would not impede feeding smoothly

Never cut mine. But here are a few pic's of what it should look like;
