Howdy folks!
Does anyone out there know of specific design restrictions for CAS steel targets, plate thickness, specific downward angle of plates, inability to swing left to right etc....
I'm fairly sure that the SASS rule book has none, but I would like to hear from ya'll! If you know of some, refer me to the wedsite or reference of any kind.
Many Thanks!

Frenchy:

Canadian Crow or Long John can probably help you out, they has done several different targets, of various shapes and sizes, including shot gun targets that swing left and right. (Not to mention the Buffalo "balls" swingers).

I think he goes through this forum on a regualr basis, if not you can get in contact with him through the cowboy section of the Barrie, Ontario club barriegunclub.org (it's on the web). His private e-mail is jayenne@sympatico.ca (Jerome Lennon)

I'm sure he would be happy to pass on whatever information and experience he has.

I know that during shoots quite often they have to change the angle of targets, on the go because of lead backsplash.

The nature of Cowboy shooting is to go with whatever you can dream up. Build em then start modifying and fine tuning untill they work the way you want with very little splash ( haven't seen any yet that spash can be eliminated totaly from, usually from rim or stand hits).

Angle forward at the top wiith a 2 or 3" swivel clearance at the bottom seems optimal.

Most of our old targets are about 16" tall and the angle iron that they hang on is welded about 3" below the top.

We just spent over $12,000 on some new targets. We had some made as tall as 22". will be trying them out this coming long weekend.
