.50, .338 Lapua or stick to my .308's and practice?

I've shot all 3 of the .338's you mention and I'd go with either the Timberwolf or the TRG-42. It really depends on which one you feel best behind. If you can afford the .50 for fun, grab it, otherwise spend the money on .338 ammo. And don't waste your time with any of the wildcat or "improved" stuff. Where you live ammo is hard enough to come by. You want something that, if need be, you can run factory ammo through.
.. but I'm liking the idea of .338 AI as you can change the barrels out to a 300 also ... decisions. HAHA
Why would you want to switch between a 300 and a 338? Just asking.....

Availability, for one reason.
I can find .300 at any of the local Crappy-Tires. There are probably only 3 places within 200 miles that have .338LM in stock, and I live in a pretty populous part of the province.
Different tasks... .338 gopher loads still burn a 1/2 can of powder every shot and cast bullets will ricochet a darn long way, the .308, 110 grain V-Max shoved along by a bunch of TrailBoss would be quite pleasant to shoot.

I'd initially buy a 338 with a 300 barrel to swap out as you can on the AI ... as I can buy 300 bullets LOCALLY but I cannot with 338 ... I also like that the AI is solid and take a shizznat-kicking. I use my rifles to hunt in some of the most extreme weather conditions in the country ... it has to be durable.

338 Lapua may be a WONDERFUL cartridge for long range but with the cost and availability of getting GREAT 338 bullets and the LAPUA brass for reloading I myself would go with a 30 cal of some sort.
It may not have the FLAVO FLARE............. of owning a 338 LAPUA but it is realistic.
In my opinion 50's and 338 Lapua's are for those where MONEY IS NO OBJECT.
If money is NO OBJECT for you go for it.
I just wonder why I see so many custon built Lapua's for sale lately???????????
