Not sure if it is classed as "precision", but, I just purchased
a Remington sps tactical in .308 with the new threaded barrel.
I am looking for advise on how to updrade and/or " trick it out".
I am looking to turn it into a wanna-be sniper rifle.
Looking for any and all ideas and places to get them.
Thinking rail types, scopes , really would like a fake suppresor aac thread,
help a precision newbie out.
Also wondering if it can be modified to accept a magazine.
Love to hear you ideas.
Thanks guys

Fixed it for ya.:D

You won't getmuch advice on how to be a wannabe sniper here.

If you want advice on how to get the most accuracy out of your rifle we can start there.

Are you reloading or shooting factory ammo?

Reloading equipment is a far better way to spend your money before a fake suppressor. I also read something on fake suppressors affecting barrel harmonics enough to really make a difference.

Hi Guys
What I was looking for was new ways and ideas to improve the rifle, be it new bolts,..bi- pods...triggers, things like that.
The word sniper rifle is used many times in this forum, thought this is what I would call it.
The barrel is threaded so, I naturally thought to find things to attach to it, hence the "fake suppressor".
It's a remington 700 sps tactical, I assumed this is the right area for the question.
Not looking to start a debate on semantics, just looking for some ideas on the rifle.
Hope you guys can help.

It would most likely be threaded for a muzzle brake.

The best advice for tricking it out is to get into reloading and fine a good load that likes your rifle.

The rest is up to you really. There is too much to cover. You have to be more specific. If you want it just to look cool just see what others have done to there SPS. If you want it to shoot better, you need to talk to a gunsmith.

A muzzle brake is a good way to use the thread, if need be. Again, reloading is one of the best things you could do for the rifle. I don't want to bring up the Savage-Remington thing but Jerry might have something to say about your choice:stirthepot2:...jk. And I don't think I remenber any threads where someone said "sniper rifle" and were let to live it down.:p

Forget a fake suppressor. Get an effective muzzle brake.
The only rail of any use is a decent scope base. Some prefer a Weaver/Picatinny style, others the long established Leupold/Redfield/Burris style. You can spend a lot or a little. Same thing with rings. Most any brand name set will work just fine. You can spend under $100, over $500, accuracy won't change. You will want a good scope with clear optica and repeatable adjustments.
A Harris bipod will work as well as any.
There are aftermarket detachable magazine systems. Guess what - the rifle won't shoot any better. Reloading might be a bit faster if that is important.
Invest in loading tools, learn to make decent ammunition, spend money on range time. This will do you more good than a truckload of tactikewl gewgaws.
Do you have access to a good range?
