Does anyone have experience with Bushmaster 9mm AR metal mags?

Colt seems to be harder and harder to come by.

The metal 10rders are ok, but I want metal 5/30s or 32s that work. Is it just me or do any other 9mm AR owners lust after metal 5/32s?

The Bushmaster (Carbon-15) 9mm Ars that I have seen have had plastic mags.

In a bygone era Questar used to have metal 5/32 converted UZI mags. I had a few, but I got rid of them because they were like 80% functional. They did not lock back on the last round, and they jammed sometimes.

My understanding is that "Colt" mags were converted UZI mags, up until supply got scarce - and then C-products started making them.

The first round of C-Products 10-round steel mags were so-so. Depends on the gun. The second round (orange followers) were good.

The best, in my view, are the plastic Pro-mag mags. There are 5/32 and 10/32 "pistol" marked mags (with the RRA logo, again another thing done by Questar in a bygone era).

As far as I can tell, the only mags that are available at all are the steel 10-rounders from Questar, or mags pinned to 5 rounds that are brought in with the rifles themselves or by other importers.

Don't bother asking Questar about UZi mags or 10/32 plastic mags, all of that is long, long gone. What they have is what is on their website.

I think Wolverine had some of the 5/32 Pro-mag plastics for awhile, but they are probably long since sold out.

9mm AR-15 can be frustrating to get up and running. You need to have your gun set up for your mags, and mags that work with the gun. I'[m just glad that I have my gun and all the mags set up and working 100% reliable. I had my struggles in the beginning though.

Ghostie,

I'm not too interested in the Bushmaster 9mm rifles, just the BM metal mags.

Is there a reason, outside of interest, why someone couldn't import 100 prohib mags and pin them to 5rds? Surely there is enough interest in 9mm 5/32 metal mags?

Rumour has it newer Colt mags are made by C product?!

I know 9mm ARs can try one's patience, but I've wanted one for sometime now and my rig is ready to assemble.

No, you could do it... providing that "you" are a person who has a firearms business licence which allows you to import and possess prohibited devices.

Anyone who does not have a firearms business licence which allows for this, and attempts it, is an extraordinarily foolish person who will - very shortly - not have anything to do with firearms in Canada.

Why don't businesses do it? I'm not sure to be honest. It is probably similar to people wanting the all metal SIG mags. To do it you would have to sell the mags at a considerable premium over the "regular" mags that the distributor brings in.

With 9mm AR mags the market is small anyway. I'm not sure what "Questar Mark's" answer to this would be. They invested a lot in bringing those metal 10 rounders to the Canadian market. Are 1000 metal 5/32 mags a good investment as well. I'm not sure.

Most of the other importers and distributors, it seems that there is very little interest in doing it.

I was thinking someone along the line of Wolverine. Fabsports is doing some cool stuff these days, but he's strictly no hassle parts only. I don't know what Mark would say. I know he isn't bringing in any more 10/32 RRA plastic mags. Shame really, but I guess he has to make a living.

I guess a thou mags is more realistic than a 100.

Is anyone else interested?

There were some Bushmaster plastic 5/32 mags for sale on EE recently that went for mid $20s; practically given away. Who would have brought those in?

AMEN brother. the best mags are the cheap plastic pro-mags. i have the 5/30's and the 10/30's. all run 100% in my franken AR.

the C-Products won`t run at all in my gun. jam after EVERY shot.

Questar posted about this else where. according to them, the mags must be pinned to canadian law BEFORE it get to canada. if you import them unpinned, they must be for MIL or LE only and can not be sold to civilians.
There is no allowance for ANY company to import prohibited devices for any purpose other than to supply those prohibited devices to a government agency (LE/Military) purchase order... or to a Movie Production company licensed to possess those devices.

The law does NOT allow importation of high capacity magazines for the purpose of modification and resale commercially... in fact once imported as "prohibited devices" those magazines can NEVER be rendered as legally commerically saleable... they are considered prohibited devices unless they are dewatted or destroyed.

Even for a business who has Prohibited Devices on their BFL (we have this on ours), in order to actually import the magazines we need to get an actual Import Permit (not to be confused with an IIC) and to get the import permit we need to submit a copy of the government/LE purchase order for the magazines... that permit and PO then goes to the US State Department as part of the export permit application and the end-user Statement signed by the government/LE agency is also required as part of the submission for export permit approval in the US.

I would be very interested to hear what companies are importing Prohibited Devices (high capacity magazines) without the required import permits and then modifying them to 5 or 10 round capacity and selling them commerically as "civilian" magazines... I'm sure the CFO of their province would like to hear who they are as well.

I think we need to convince one of the sponsers to bring more mags in;

plastic or metal 30/5s or 30/10s.

Has anyone heard anything on the Spike's Tactical steel mags?

C Products do produce the new Colt mags, reviews on these seem to be quite mixed. Metalform were the original Colt OEM supplier and they still make them, believe that companies like Spike's are using these. I personally like the old Colt 20rd mags but they are rare as hens teeth these days, the C product 20 rd mag is shorter than the old Colt.

I just read the same thing on M4Carbine.net that Spike's has Metalform making 9mm AR mags for them from the original Colt dies.

So, a question. If everbody played nice, in theory could Spike's pin an order of mags and ship them to a company up here? So what if they are $70ish a pop. I drop $60 a piece on 5 Sig mags without blinking. What is the difference here?

I mean there is nothing available except on the EE and then you have to catch it in the first couple of mins or its long gone. I've even toyed with the idea of buy a 9mm AR off the EE just to get the mags!

God, I want 5/32 steel mags so bad I could puke.

I have to go lay down now.

I asked Mark about the C Products long metal mags before but he said I was the only one to ever ask if he could bring them in. In short, he said there is not enough demand to justify the cost and work involved.

I could still go for some 5/32rd C Products stick mags. Hint, Hint, vendors.

The qustion then becomes a home fix it project (Uzi mag body modified with guts from another mag that may work) or selecting the best option of a pinned mag and ordering them. At very least I'll try the fix it project, but I want to pay for ready working mags.

Time to make some calls tomorrow. After that, perhaps a poll for selection and see who is really interested.

Why not put a C-mag follower in the Uzi mag and cut another slot for hold open?

The C product mags have an anti tilt follower with a little "divot" at the back of the follower that slides along a guide. It is not a "true rectangle shape" like the UZI followers.

There is a fellow who every so often orders in the C-products 5/32 metal mags that look just like Questars 10 rounders, but in pinned 32 round form.

I would like to see more stick mags pinned to "10" for use in a 9mm "pistol AR"

:)

Spike's certainly seems to be charging a premium for theirs, $45 a pop, ouch, although you can buy 5 for $205 which is reasonable. Metalform sells these mags to anyone and I do believe that they charge around $30, just need to find someone stateside who can pin them and ship them to you. They're available with the plastic or metal followers.

ETA: Just checked out the metalform website, looks like they've gotten greedy and upped the price to $50, I know that they were selling them for $30 when Colt stopped using them as the OEM supplier. Looks like they still produce the 20 rounders as well, nice.
