There are a few low cost options, or you can scratch build a system for a very reasonable price.
Self returning target system

And I do realize that money was spent on improvements this year in your range.
But... money will be available again and then I am getting to the point of my question.
Is it in short term plans, or any plans (within 1- 3 years) to build self returning target system?
Is it happening, yes or no?

X100 for Silverdale. As already stated the have a great bunch of people there. I am 10 minutes from Burlington but drive the hour to get to Silverdale.
I hope not.. 'Waste of money.
A retrofit would be costly and for what...?
What's wrong with just calling a cease fire and walking down range to check/change targets..?
Given history I'd predict BRRC would have to set up a contingency fund just to repair said target system of bullet holes and other damage caused by shooters who can't seem to grasp concepts like trajectory.

That's my understanding too. But it has to wait until the structure is rebuilt. As I understand it, its really an issue of headroom, not technology.
As above, until the new roof is on (which is actually a range rebuild from wood truss to core/slab) there is insufficient headroom for a target return system. So I guess the answer is no.

Say we are both shooting.
I take 2 minutes to shoot my target.
you take 15.
Now I have to wait 13 minutes twiddling my thumbs until you are done we we can change target.
Then waltz down the range to complete the change over.
With auto return you can just set your distance and shoot at your own time.
Hey we are up to 550 confirmed 2010 members now!! ( it was 220 back when we rebuilt the first time in 2001).
I would love to have the resources that would be available with 1600 members!! The possibilities would be endless. Mind you EESA has a solid core group of people who work their proverbial asses off for the club. Not everyone is as lucky.
( oh and we are also going to be HUGELY in debt!!)>

And answered. I realize that its not that simple. Certainly there has been exemplary leadership on Stormbringers part. A motivated BoD can do much. While I am not privy to EESA's financial arrangements, I suspect that they own their real estate and are thus able to get Bank Financing, at commercial rates. BRRC does not own the parkland it sits on, its owned by the City of Burlington; we only own the buildings.
Its a double edged sword. The land (an old dump, now a park) prevents us from ever being encroached upon by houses and industry, but its still a City park. There are limits on what the City will allow us to do. They tend to take a dim view of us using their land for collateral, as does the Banks.
Well, let's hope that there is a light at the end of a tunnel and perhaps structural repair will happen one day at BRRC, but probably not any time soon.
As the things stand if one wants to enjoy modernized target retrieval system in GTA, only range that has it is Target Sports.
Next closest one would be Shooters Choice in Waterloo, for people that live in west end of GTA it is about one hour drive.

For fear of getting into the fray, what about Guelph Rod and Gun?
I don't know if they have automatized target system, but I DO know that they have 'buddy' system.

Well... In my 12 years ar BRRC it's never been a problem.
I find most shooters are polite and accomodating towards each other when it comes to cease fires etc.
As mentioned already... A target return system just won't fit into brrc at this time. The ceiling is too low... Or maybe it's the floor that's too high..?
I'm currently looking into gun clubs and GRGC is definitely on my list. Geographically it works for me as I'll be moving to the northwestern Mississauga area (practically Milton). A nice outdoor range for 100 yards with an indoor handgun range to stay warm in the winter. But alas, I do not like the buddy system. Hence the search continues.
I hear everyone walking about Silverdale, but the Niagara region is a bit far of a drive and I'd like to have an indoor handgun range.

exactly. i would have thought that there was somewhere to go within 20-30 minutes of my house.

Perhaps you might also look into Hamilton gun ranges, and Silverdale is always most recommended choice.
