I have a "Liege United Arms Co Ltd" 12 guage double trigger, double barrel shot gun. Serial is #2891 - says " Leader" between the barrels and they have a stamp that although faded looks like a horse on the top of the barrels. When I search google etc. it seems as though Browning took over years ago and Liege United built pistols and cheap shotguns for export from Belgium. I cannot seem to find a trace back for this specific gun. Any ideas. Typical - my Dad got it from a friend and then it came to me and after 30 years hiding in a safe - I think I should do something with it!!

That is a nice shotgun you have. I have one similar to yours by a different Belgian maker. As I have posted before, check out;

You should find your gun or one very similar listed under
Fabriques d’Armes Unies de Liège.

Let us know what you find out and post some pictures.

Send it to the gunsmith to check for safety and chamber length. Afterwords, shoot the thing! It'll be more than happy to be used on clays and upland game.

I have the exact same gun with the exact same markings. All i have been able to find out about it is that it is a belgian "guild" gun. Apparently it could have been made by a number of manufacturers in belgium or at least with parts that came from a number of manufacturers which is why its almost impossible to find information. It would be interesting if anyone could add any info on this gun. The inscription under the horses reads "Le Centaure".

Some better pictures would help. Here's a few basic tips.

Shoot outside if possible under natural light. Flash tends to wash things out.

Shoot against a dark background - red, green, brown, etc. otherwise the gun is too dark.

For closeups, use the Macro feature (usually a little flower symbol). Again, lots of diffuse light rather than a flash.

Looks like not a bad gun, by the way.

I also have the same gun only mine has engraving and 2 sets of barrels, chokes are more open in one set. I like the looks of your stock better than mine though.

As already mentioned, littlegun.be can shed light on the firearm in question. One would need to subscribe though (a very small fee required) in order to obtain response(s) to such queries.

You may also consult the following link that will assist to decipher most of the stamps on the bbl flats and watertable.....

You are right about the evaluation fee, 5 euros I believe. There are a lot of guns shown with evaluations and comments, so you could get lucky and find a listing for a gun like yours. If you look at "Identified Craftsmen", you will find a list of all of the known Belgian makers. Once again,

Any barrel stamps or receiver stamps a pretty easy to match up to marks listed on other guns that are shown.
