just wondering if the BUL M-5 is legal in IDPA. most of it looks like it would be, but i'm wondering about the barrel - bull, no bushing, etc. or if there's other aspects of it that make it non-IDPA-legal i would like to know.

as a secondary question - i guess that it would be legal in IPSC, right? just want to know where i can / can't compete if i buy it since i'm looking to ditch my Norc 1911 and replace it with something similar but in .40S&W so that it can use the same ammo as my Glock 22, and the BUL M-5 looks to be that and in a good price range (next step up is probably the STI Ranger II at around double the price)

hmm, i kinda thought so... so i could either buy it and use it for range / IPSC stuff, or get a (Norinco) Sig P226 as an alternative to the M5. i'm not a fan of the CZ stuff, though maybe i'll give the Shadow one last "feel"

The Norinco is fine to shoot, but the CZ Shadow is not legal due to the full length dust cover. Depending on what caliber you want to shoot, one of the best buys out there right now is the STI Spartan, can be had in 45acp and now 9mm.

want to stick to .40S&W so that sadly knocks the Spartan out. when i wanted a normal 1911, i wanted commander which knocked the Spartan out. now that i'm ok with gov't but want to have the same ammo as the glock (.40), the Spartan is out again!!! damnit!!! i suppose 9mm is a (distant) plan-B but i do wanna minimize the calibers i use (so far, already have 22, 38/357, 40, and the norc in 45 which i wanna get rid of)

If you replace the grips and mag brake you can get the Shadow down to 39oz making it legal for IDPA. I have both the Shadow and the CZ85 Combat and find the Combat a better gun for me in IDPA. With a Competition hammer installed the CZ85 Combat can have a trigger every bit as good as the Shadow.

That is true, we managed to do that with factory plastic grips and the 10 round half plastic mags with the SP-01, but why make all those changes, just buy a Spatan. :D

:D:D:D Yea but I tried it with the Shadow, which weighs more than the SP-01 and couldn't get down to 39oz with the Shadow.

my ONLY reason for considering going for something in the 9mm caliber is that my main range doesn't allow .40S&W, so i either have to be very quiet about it or shoot an alternative (like 38/357 or a 9mm), and since i've got 700+ rounds of .40 sitting around, i figure i should carry on in that caliber.

of course, i wish i knew about that .40 restriction BEFORE i bought the gun, mags, and ammo!!! yeah, the guy who sold me the ammo knew about the restriction but neglected to tell me...

EDIT - meh, it's just the one range. other ranges are OK with .40 so i'm sticking with it as a caliber.

Ahhhhh, your range does nto allow you to shoot .40S&W, WTF is that all about?

If you want a Commander sized 1911, another great gun is the STI Ranger II and you can get it in 9mm.

yeah, it's a PITA. something about it being a federal range and some cops being incompetent and making holes in sheds that are NOT downrange, blah blah blah. basically, being a fed range, they are less lenient and more strict.

at this point, i'm ok going with a Gov't 1911 but to be honest, i'd rather keep it to .40S&W since i already use 40 in the glock (and will either buy the stuff lots more or cave in and reload for it) and there's another range i'll be joining in the fall that DOES allow the 40

Wow, just wow, but .357 magnum is ok?

The STI Ranger II can be had in .40S&W as well.

oh, it's funnier than you think. get this: .40S&W is not allowed, 10mm is allowed.

and yeah, 357 and 44 and even 50AE are all OK.

straiten that club out. start asking questions to the right people and let it go. it. the government has us jumping through too many hoops to start with , we dont need club "executives" adding more

it's a fed range. i'd rather NOT point out that A = B, cuz then they'll ban B as well as A. the gov't prefers to close a loophole rather than drop a limit. or have you not been around long enough???
