A friend wants me to go squirrel hunting with him, but im not sure that i want to go because..basically, im not going to shoot something that im not going to eat and im not sure if id want to eat a squirrel.

Has anyone ever eaten squirrel?

I got close once. Caught one in my trap and shot it. Since I am always telling my kids you got to eat what you shoot, I thought what the heck.

I was totally grossed out when I took a close look at the squirrle. it looked like it had scavies(scabies). i was so grossed out i tossed it.

If someone else cleaned it and cooked it I would try it.

My friend from just outside Chicago goes all the time. He says they tube skin them, gut them and then toss them in the slow cooker with beer and bbq sauce. let them cook for several hours until the meat falls off the bone and serve it either as a stew by adding veggies and some beef broth or like beef on a bun.

Yes, squirrel stew is a delicacy around my house. You treat them just a like a rabbit, and they taste pretty much the same! I hunt them in a big oak forest near my place, and I do my best to shoot my limit each year

Yup, I eat squirrels too. I usually put them in a stew, and I think I'm going to do some rear quarters up like chicken wings and bbq them this year.

Squirrels are super tasty provided you ONLY eat the ones that you find DEEP in the bush there they have no chance of eating garbage!

Bin Der Dun Dat

They taste pretty good but they are too small. I need about a dozen to fill me up. I soak'em in a zip lock bag of "Newman's Own" for a few hours, dust'em up with flour and then throw'em on the fry pan in salty butter. Can you say Mmmmm...?

Haven't had onein a couple years but very very tasty. 2 Seasons ago I had a slow morning bow hunting so I went back to the truck and grabbed my Ithica 37. Popped a few big black squirrels and deep fried them in southern chicken seasoning. Comes out just like Dixie Lee chicken...... MMMMmmmmmmm :D

I probably did at my uncle's place as if it has fur or feathers and lingers around his house, it's a safe bet he shot and ate a couple of them, and served some at family gatherings ...

He only made the mistake of telling the relatives just <what> was in the oh-so-delicious meat pie he served once. All I remember for sure is groundhog, but there was probably some skunk, racoon, and possibly squirrel in there ... Funny how the "sqeamish" members of the family ran to the bathroom and did everything they could to make themselves vomit, even though dinner had been over for a few hours.

I found the stuff delicious, and I have learned long ago that when I have supper at his place, I take small bites, chew carefully, and spit out the shotgun pellets.

Used to eat them all the time. We only get red squirrel up here, not very big, but snarned them by the hundreds. The young of the year are best for the stew pot, same for muskrat. Bon appitite

just once, did it as kind of a party trick at a camp, I conned my girlfriend at the time into trying a peice, and never got punched in the face so hard in my life.

theres not much meat on the little ones, about the size of you thumb. I bet a big grey one would be alright though.

We used to eat them all the time when we were kids. Big black ones and even bigger grey ones. Throw them on the bbq, and you'll swear they are chicken drumsticks...:)
