Last gun show I was at I seen a Lee Enfield mk1 cruciform bayonet. Now I have convinced myself that I need one :D But a few days ago I found an article somewhere on line that said 20 or so years ago a bunch of forgeries were produced out of normal Mk2 spike bayos. Any truth to that? What are some key things to look for in spotting a fake and what is the current market price? Any help or tidbits of info on these bayos is much appreciated.

The only ones who made the cruciform bayonet were Singer. marked S.M.C or S.M. It is a one piece forging
By eliminating the flutes the price was reduced from 11/3d for the MkI to 6/8d for the MkII
Total production for the Mk1 was 75,000
Yes there are fakes, but I have never seen one.

I don't think the bad guys would know the difference if stuck by a cruciform blade or a spike.

"...convinced myself that I need one..." Of course you need one. You need all the other No. 4 bayonets too. Total of 8, as I recall.

Actualy 9. the chromed spike that was modified with a ball on the end because they kept getting caught in the colours on parade. You couldn't put it in the scabbard but then you didn't need to.
Still looking for one of those.
