Marlin 336 in .30-30 WIN

Took it out to the range today ... it shoots! lol

I let cbabes shoot it first since he's such as a nice guy (and partially because I wasn't sure if it would blow up :D)

Overall I think it was pretty accurate off-hand, even got a compliment from someone at the range I didn't know

That was funny. I don't know whether to be angry with you or not!

Great gun , I have a 1954 and use it for hunting every fall. It has already kills more deers than I will in all my life.
I use 170gr bullet for deer under a 100M

Beautiful rifle. All you will ever need as long as you don't read any forums or magazines! 170 grain silvertips are one of the best all around cartridges you'll find.

I can tell you i have one for sale right now,... it is a very nice brush gun indeed. but im finding side by side my .444 looks and feels like the same gun but with more whomping power. so im going to narrow it down to the one short range brush gun.

Marlin 30.30

I've had older 336 model Marlins in both the 30.30 Win and 35 Rem .

Both were a pleasure ot shoot ( low recoil ) and very accurate

The 30.30 can take most of all big game found in Ontario.... within it's limits

I've had great success with it on deer and bear under 100 yds, using
the 170 gr Winchester load and the new Hornady leverevolution 160 gr ammunition

Practice will make you a good shot, more practice will make you a better shot.

To reduce felt recoil you can also add an aftermarket recoil pad such as a Decellerator, Pachmyre or R 3 from Remington

I'm personally big on open sights but there are good red dot and varialbe scopes out there made to fit that can increase your accuracy at reasonable distances for the 30.30 calibre

Have fun and enjoy it

A lot of people might disagree, but the 30 30 is still by far my favorite run. Ammo is plentiful, and my old marlin(1950-60) is still as reliable as ever. Although I use a 30 06 pretty much all the time, it's never far away when I go hunting. Let's face it, more big game is taken at less than 200 yards than any other distance. That's why the 30 30 is so reliable...as long as we remember that it's bullet placement that counts...not necessarily the caliber.
