Chopping SKS barrel?

So I don't wanna be an ass and hijack this thread, but can the barrel of a 20" AR be cut down to a 10"? Not that I would ruin a perfect firearm.

Semi auto centerfires also have a min barrel length of 18.5", to be non-res.
Altering by cutting under 18" = prohib.

would a zipcut not be a good clean way to cut through the liner? Or is it really that hard? I think moving the front sight base back that little bit helps bring the proportions closer to a short barreled (+/-15") rifle like a VZ or AK and looks a little cooler, in a Bubba kind of way. Do a good clean job and youve got my attention

But....we have really short barreled AR's, much shorter than 18inches...Does it have to be an original factory barrel?
I am not sure if it was on CGN or elsewhere but I remember seing a Vz-58 Krinker...restricted.

Yes, has to be a factory produced barrel. Like a dlask or green mountain, or whatever the gun came with from factory.
