does anyone know of a complete list of the Pistols Legal for sale in Canada?

I am going to take my restricted soon and want to start doing some research on the pistols I am able to buy here in Canada.

That would be a long list. Even though there are lots of guns not available, there still are lots of options.

Typically, unless it's prohibited due to barrel length (4" or less) or caliber (.25 or .32) it is likely restricted and therefore legal for those licensed.

The easiest way to see what's available is to browse through the dealers and forums such as this and see what's for sale. You will be able to purchase all handguns in "restricted" class but not any 12-6 prohibs.

Only thing I would add to the above is that there are also many more that are legal but can be hard to get due to dealer/distributor ordering/shortages.

gonna be a nice and long Research :popCorn::popCorn: .
Just go in the next Gunstore and start from there.

If you do a search of this site you will find many others who have posted the same question. "I am just starting out, what gun should I buy?"
You can start by answering a few basic questions to narrow your search.
What is your budget? For pistols it should include a club membership and ammo. Handguns chew up much more ammo than most long guns.
What type of shooting am I going to do? Are you interested in accuracy or do you want the "Wow" factor of your favourite movie gun? What calibre do you have in mind?
Have you tried shooting before? Is there a make or model that you liked and may have fit your hand well. That can make a big difference.
All things to consider.
Personally I always try to steer new shooters to a rimfire 22. Most will shoot better than you can and will stay accurate for many lifetimes. At a time when you need to practice lots, being able to buy 500 rounds for under $25 is a big bonus. A good rimfire from Ruger, S&W, Colt, Sig etc will serve you well throughout you shooting career.

Just a few things to consider and get you started. Good Luck.

Im not new to guns but by no means am I a veteran shooter either. I shoot with a few military guys so I have had plenty of time to play with their guns at the range. Right now both buddies have M&P 9 pistols. Nice gun to shoot for sure but Id like something different. No point in 3 of us having the same gun and besides I dont really need a combat pistol. I was looking at the CZ SP-01 and I have always like the 1911 but I deffinetly want to stick with a 9mm (ammo cost) and a 22LR conversion kit for whatever I buy. This will be a range / home defense gun. I already own a Mossber 500SPX and a remington 597. Im looking at picking up an SKS soon as well. I dont really have a budget in mind. Im not too worried about the cost. The EAA witness match looks nice too. I do really like the XDM 4.5 however there is no 22lr kit for them so thats a negative point for me. Sig 226 is nice but Id rather spend the same and get a 1911 in 9mm. still lots looking around to do.

Lol...

I find it easier and faster just to dial 911 with my index finger than the business end of a 9mm.

And my Remi 870 with the door knocker choke tube makes a real mess on my iphone screen.
Under the added stress of a home invasion I'm more likely to just wet my bed and beg the intruder
to have mercy on me and my family...

Do you also find it faster to explain your problem to the 911 dispatcher and then wait for people to show up to help you? Police response time in your area must be fast as hell. My first shot draw times are around .70-.75 from concealment...you should be very proud of your local force for being able to help you in less than three quarters of a second.

Wetting your bed may get you charged with using a concealed weapon to defend yourself... never mind the liberal media complaining about a concealed weapon going off in your pants... think of the children!!

[joke] Bed wetting is a solution I came up with when my wife started complaining
because I would insist on "cleaning my firearm" whilst in bed. It was starting to be
a problem for our marital relations.

The stink on Hoppes #9 on my pillow casing was driving her mental. (I guess pee smells better.)

And finding spare mags buried under the sheets at the foot of the bed was always a pet peeve.

[/joke]

She's so ready to debate the point that if an armed intruder came anywhere near our bedroom with a firearm,
or god forbid smelling like any brand of bore cleaner.... Their a$$ would be toast.

I picked up 2 pairs of used size 15 work boots at Value Village. Cost me $10 and I leave a pair outside next to the front and pair next to the back door. Best deterrent/$10 I've spent. If that fails, I keep 2 throwing bricks next to my bed. :D

I use these on my doors to keep my kids in the house....
But they probably work to keep baddies out... At least long enough until I can find a gun to clean.

D'oh sorry I've totally jacked this tread.

Thx to everyone for making this such a helpful thread. I will be moving on now. I guess a made a mistake thinking that there may be some helpful people on here with a common intrest. One more useless forum on the internet!

Well, it definitely was appealing to write up a list for you of the 5000 or so pistols that are legal to purchase in this country.

Obviously it's a lot more reasonable for us to write a list of five thousand guns than it is for you to look up what guns interest you, and have a barrel longer than the legal minimum, and ask if those dozen guns are available. That would take so much effort on your part!
