I hope you responded along the lines of "Well, it's a good thing that I'm not shooting an AK-47 then!"
I did in fact tell him what it was and the fact that it is non-restricted.... he failed to believe me... I kept shooting and he packed up his single shot 22's(yes, plural)..

Sounds like a good riddance to me.
I know that range and am a member there but usually shoot at PoCo. There are some very Fuddish types at Mission who seem to think that anything that isn't old, walnut and blued in 30-06 is somehow 'wrong' :-(
I have had a Fudd at Mission insist I shoot my Savage .22LR bolt gun single shot rather than use the 5 shot magazine as, apparently, they have a rule against loading more than one shot at a time. While he was correct in his interpretation of the rule ( though had discretion to make an exception which he did not exercise ), this particular Fudd's attitude was very, very poor to myself and, later, to some other folks so I wrote to the club exec about it - alas, I never did get a reply.

And as for the one shot thing , that is quite shallow and pedantic , Federal government says 5 shots maximum for centerfire , unlimited bolt etc and they say 1 shot only even when the firearm(s) have multi capacity magazines.

I shoot my AR with a YHM-comp muzzle brake. It is very loud. Just like you we had a group of guys come from behind the berm and demand to know what I was shooting.
"AR-15 with muzzle brake. Wanna try?" - frowns turned upside down - a unanimous "sure, yeah, great"

"Cartridge restrictions per Federal regulations: .460 Weatherby, .50 BMG and .338 Lapua Mag. are PROHIBITED"
It should be stated clearly in the range rules what kind of fire (i.e. rapid fire), what cartridges (my indoors range does not allow to discharge milsurp) and what firearms (i.e. blank FA pistols) are prohibited to discharge in this particular range. If rules are not there - tell the guy to FO.
ps K9 unit? weird. The guy probably said you guys were junkies or something. It should be very specific search requirement to dispatch a K9 unit such as narcotics, runaways etc. I would contact local police department immediately to find out the reason for your home visit. It's not pure curiosity from your side. You have to know why they dispatched K9.

Generally a good set of ear protection helps block out the fudds, then avoid eye contact and pretend they are not around...if they get more invasive such as blocking my path, disrupting my time at the range or worse yet touching my firearms without permission I'd talk immediately with the range manager and see if you can get the fudd thrown out of the club as in my experience they only get worse over time.
I suspect this sort of micromanagement is a mental condition for some of these fudds being polite will not change them.
I brought my 14" barreled HP9 shotgun out at a trap shoot one day a few years ago and a fudd yelled at me saying "no one should be able to buy those shotguns...what if a criminal bought them" The resulting 20min of me making him look like a liberal and NDP supporting ####### who should mind his own business was very satisfying.
I would have explained what it was, and offered him a try. Then, if necessary, told him where to go. lol

He was clearly jealous of your cousins rifle and frustrated at the fact that his single shot .22s weren't satisfying his needs anymore.
I think he was shootin a bolt action .303 british carbine. it had the same bolt as the einfield. but no fore stock. what ever it was it didn't look like my my black CZ or my cousin's remington....so i think he was upset because we had a bigger gun. Some good did come out of this konw what a FUDD is and they are attracted to loud noises and big, black, scary rifles. Thanks gunner's.
