Lets just say money is no object can one pimp the norinco into a tac driver. If yes where can i find the parts like heavy barrel, trigger etc.

Absolutely. Most of the parts come already on the rifle! The norc has some parts that are arguably better than USGI parts and some that are worse. Ex: Norc bolt = worse than USGI, Norc Op-Rod = better than USGI due to typically stronger weld. (This statement is of course dependent on year of manufacture of the M305 and all the other Chinese quality control issues, most that have been fixed by 2010)

Honestly, you could swap out the entire norc with USGI or aftermarket parts with the exception of the receiver, spend 1000's of $$$$ and have a rifle no better than someone who does a few tweaks of their Norc.

Save your money, buy a Norc, do a couple mods ala Hungry Clinics and spend all that extra money saved on ammo. The real tack driver is first your shooting skills and then all the whizzy sparkly stuff.

Plus 90% of USGI parts are rare and expensive this side of the border.

Yup. I did it, Hungry did it, a bunch of others on here did too. Read the forum on how to as well head over to some m14 forums and read some more. There is alot you can do on your own with minimal skills make this great rifle shoot awesome.

+1 (to above)...but if you really need to spend money then I think M14Doctor can take care of you.

Umm... I wound't say Norinco oprods a BETTER than USGI. At best, some of them are equal. Not all oprods are welded construction either ;)

As I had mentioned in previous posts, I was in-servicing some police armorers and their Norc M14's were shooting into 1/2" group cloverleafs with match ammo. I cannot say who or what or where, but I can say these guys are master craftsmen. Yeah, I was amazed what they were doing with the knowledge I gave them. Fantastic hosts!

So can it become a tack driver? Like the saying goes, "Speed costs money; how fast do you want to go?"

Personally, I'll stick with my M700 Police .308 shooting 155 Lapua Scenars from Hirsch Precision. ;) Lots cheaper that way! :D

Hey, enjoy the $ 400 boomstick and the addiction, but keep things in perspective... then again... I might just scope my Norc 2007 M14 and shoot the 155's loaded to a magazine tolerant 2.80" at the DMR matches (cannot reveal how and when ) yuk yuk yuk. ;)

ideally each shot would touch the hole the previous shot made, since no one would believe you if all your shots hit the same hole.

... and their Norc M14's were shooting into 1/2" group cloverleafs with match ammo.

More details...?

- best group of several groups fired, or average size of several groups?
- 3 shots, 5 shots, 10 shots, etc?

(even if it is the best 3-shot group of several fired, it is still pretty impressive!)

Ah yes, that information, I can release. They always shoot 5 round groups, iron sights  off the sandbagged bench. I just kept flipping their pages of targets. They have to record/keep every single group shot. That is their standard operating procedure (SOP) and I could see no groups above 3/4" or 1". Most of them were cloverleafed around the 1/2" mark. Damn these guys were good! :D

Remember that I was at this facility for 8 hours and my head was spinning all day long. Their security people kept my cell phone / camera and wallet and keys. I could not record anything. All I remember was their groups were all around the 1/2" to 3/4" and that alone is phenomenal ; after they watched my downloaded videos (found in the sticky above). Then they invited me to their facility. I was honored! :)

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Barney

where can you get parts for the m14? in Canada IE the USGI parts?

Also does anyone sell Sage stocks? are they that much different than the ones Marstar sells?

M14 parts are available through many of the site sponsors, as well as other dealers as well (ie 7.62mm Firearms). Also, the EE is a good place to find USGI goodies from time to time.

As for the Sage stocks; contact DelSelins. He carries Sage stocks and will gladly help you out. And yes, the Sage M14 EBR stock is quite different than the ones Marstar sells.

Hope this helps.

Sage is not the only option for an accurazed M14. In fact, I would argue it is not even the best choice. The sage is heavy, it requires tools to strip the rifle and you have to undo quite a few fasteners. For a cheese-grater stock, it's odd that the buttstock isnt inline with the barrel. Rather than use a cheek riser to get up to the sights or optic, it would make much more sense to just mount the stock higher to lower muzzle flip.

It is well made though and gives you that EBR "Look Cool Factor".

Some other choices, all with their high and low points, include:

-AKM (MUCH cheeper and functionally almost identical to SAGE)
-Troy MCS (better for CQB IMHO)
-Vltor chopmod
-JAE
-M14Doc offerings
-m14.ca

The list goes on...

As for USGI parts, the boat has more or less sailed on affordable real GI parts now that they can't be exported from the US - unless Marstar or someone imports a bunch from overseas.

You can get milspec commercial parts, but not USGI unless you get lucky on the EE and are willing to pay $$$

Wow Hungry that really is fantastic shooting, period, as well as being fantastic performance from an M14. The best credible accuracy reports I've heard in the past were that an accurized M14 was able to shoot a bit better than one MOA (meaning, all shots all the time, groups of 10-22 shots, etc). Sounds like your guys were operating at or beyond that level. Like I said that is truly first rate shooting. Do you suppose you could talk any of those guys into considering taking a place on a competitive rifle team? ;-)

This thread needs pictures

This one has a medium heavy Crazy Horse barrel and I'm told that it consistently shoots 0.50" groups.

It will be at Camp Perry later this month

I wonder how my M21A5 CH EBR SASS would fair with the same ammo and trigger puller???
