Ipsc 2010 nat's

the Quebec guys rock, now you know why I love to go there and shoot. The are the most fun guys in the country and run awesome matches.

So a quick review of this years Nationals. I had an awesome time. Good stages with lots of variety throughout. I heard some #####ing about not enough movement, then I heard #####ing about too much movement. Too many hard shots, not enough hard shots. So basically I think hard and movement were covered near perfect. I even managed to throw some strong hand only into one stage (would have liked to see more forced strong/weak hand stuff, but I'm a masochist, as Tritium knows far too well). My one and only complaint. No food or drink up there for anyone besides CRO's. While it was nice to have water on every stage, I can think of a couple organizations that would have come up there for free to serve food all week long, and they would have provided a large selection of food and drink cooked and made right there.
other than that, great stages and a great time.
 
This was my first Nationals and I loved it. Best match I've ever been to. I really enjoyed the venue and would gladly travel out there for future nationals if they are there. I thought the stages were well designed and quite varied, no complaints on that end. The construction itself was top notch, given I tried to tear down a couple of the stages by running into obstacles :) and the target stands, movers and clamshells were all really well put together and seemed really sturdy which is obviously important for consistency. I really enjoyed meeting a bunch of people, especially the Ont Prod team and the Quebec boys, all of whom I spoke to quite a bit and who were really friendly! Even the match hotels and banquet were great!

They are not allowed forward movement, it's a French thing...something about not being historically accurate :D
Just kidding guys hope it all gets sorted, looking forward to next year!

Does that mean that their will be a lot of stages where you have to retreat/run backwards, and start positions starting with the "surrender" position? ;)
 
This was my first crack at the Nationals as well. This is only my second year shooting IPSC so a lot of it is still new for me.

I saw 2 shooters DQ'ed on Day 1. Made me very conservative in my approach to the CoF. I made a conscious decision to simply get through the match and experience it. I ended up at 25 in PD and I am satified with that for a first time out at this level.

The stages were very interesting .

I don't know why anyone would complain about lack of movement or the lack of difficulty. Sure some stages could have have been a little more challenging - St2 was the one I heard complaints about. The turners gave the shooter a full face at rest so it was simply a case of dropping the steel and then coming back for the paper. It was still fun. Some stages had a LOT of movement and from all the mikes I saw I think the shots were more that difficult enough.

The boat was trouble for anyone with balance issues. I loved it!

Some of the stages had issues for sure. I worked Stage 7 Thursday and we had a lot of issues with equipment. The cables for the activators were attached to the front of the poppers and were shot off several times. Then the dropout targets started screwing up. Made for a long day :) But we got through it and saw a lot of good shooters perform.

And these things are bound to happen to one degree or the other when you start integrating these devices into stage design.

The clamshells were interesting. I had never seen one before and I was eager to try them out. Turns out they ran quite slowly and were cool to look at but pretty much a non-issue to shoot.

All in all I really enjoyed my first trip to Nats. Met shooters from right across Canada. Got to see some big dogs shoot - very cool :)

Got to shoot some cool stages - challenging ones but also some good straight up speed shoots- a good mix in my opinion.

Thanks to Clint, Dan, Dave, Harry and all the rest of the guys for all the hard work. I can only imagine the hours you all put in to make this happen and despite the #####in' and moanin' you guys did a great job.

Now about that helicopter???.............

Yeah, I'd heard about the lines getting cut. It didn't happen to my squad. A guy would have to shoot pretty low for that to happen I would think.
 
You would think but it happened twice out of the first 3 shooters.

And then again and.....again and ................... :)

The cable were cut several more times during the day. Time and again when I painted the steel the hits were right next to the hook-up.

Should have been part of the stage briefing: "Hits occuring on the steel wiring will be reflected in the score as a no-shoot"
 
Or put a tire in front of the PP so the hookup was protected.

Same with the falling target. Could have used a tire instead of the bungie cord to catch it. We had several reshoots because the bungie cord broke.

Lessons learned :)

This is work in progress but you’re welcome to visit now … no names posted, just pics.
More action shots coming, still trying to figure out how to integrate videos (or I might just end up setting up another little website to house them).

Some shooters (who are also photographers) will be giving me more images that I can add onto this site. FYI.
