Well I pulled another stupid, so get the facepalm smilies out. Took the bushmaster out to the range and was sighting in my Vortex Strikefire. I was getting closer and closer to the center when all of a sudden my next 3 shots were in three different locations on the target. I thought it might have just been me so I tried another three shots and they all flew in different directions. I set the gun down and noticed the Vortex flop a little to the side.

Seems the nut on the RDS mount had come loose, VERY loose. I swear when I put that thing on there I was afraid I was going to break the nut because I put it on too tight. Guess it might need some locktite.

Did I mention those were my last 6 rounds of ammunition?

Im not beating myself up, although I do feel really silly for not realizing it sooner and wasting my last 6 shots, this is sort of like walking around work for half the day and realizing your fly was down the entire time

I had a buddy shooting beside me and he was making a good group. Then he reloaded and his rounds where everywhere. I could hear him swearing in confusion, and when I looked up from the spotting scope his scope was hanging on to the front of his weaver rail by the rear ring. It had been moving forward with every shot.

Best part was watching him cussing and trying again while his scope flopped around about to fall off.

I sighted it into about a 2 inch grouping at 100 yards then wasted most of my ammo shooting the gong. I decided to then try to get it tighter and thats when the problems happened.

Stuff happens.

I lean towards using loctite on most anything I suspect may come loose, particularly with semi-autos. I've never had a problem taking something off again after, as long as I use a heat gun, and it does so save on the *facepalms*.
