Just saw these are cylinder bore... so Im guessing rifled slugs are ok. anyone try slugs, how did they shoot?

What type of patters/groups are you guys getting with your 8.5"er?

what type of ammo have you tried?

Also, whats the effective range for grouse w/ birdshot?
 
re patterned a grizz 8.5 with bird shot, 00buck and shot slugs.

i wouldnt use it at ranges in excess of 15-20m.

I patterns well at 10m

These numbers are not scientific, test one out your self..

My 7 yard patterns were 10 inches with both trap loads and buckshot, when the term "scattergun" was coined, this is the shottie they were referring to. The last clay I shot in my video, was about 20 yards away, I'd have some pretty good doubts about getting enough pellets on target beyond that to break a clay. Course that's as far as I can throw, so it all works out

Supposing a bunch of clays are walking up my stairs at 4 am, I guarantee enough accuracy to take the heads clean off of these clays at any distance you could genuinely justify these clays were endangering your life. Also, I just got a Knoxx Recoil reducing stock, and can't wait to get it installed and try it out. Combined with the Flashlight/laser I bought to mount on the rail, I'll just go ahead and recommend the clays pick someone else's house.
 
Saw that Uberfriend has, what seems to be a mod screw-in choke on his...

whats the deal with that? Is that a 8.5" grizzly or a Dlask/other barrel? How much would it cost to have a 8.5"er modified to accept screw in chokes? Is it doable?

There is plenty of metal in the 8.5 grizzly barrel to have it tapped (or whatever the term is for this) for chokes. This came from a guy at my range who has the equipment to do this, I don't know what it would cost, however.
 
I see you are from Quebec, but I'm pretty sure here in BC a barrel has to be a minimum of 12 inches for hunting game. I learned that when I saw these and though I would get a 12.5" version instead, not like the tiny bit it really matters much at that point :) Both are cool. This one is a bit cooler.

I couldn't find this in the wildlife act. Only limitation imposed on a gun is the shotguns can only have 2 in the tube. That I could find, anyhow? Help?

Today's clays aren't like the clays in the old days, that's for sure. What I'm hoping, of course is that the little red dot that my 12 ga flashlight has at it's centre, causes the clays to have a quick change of heart, and beat a hasty retreat. First Class PITA getting busted clays out of your carpet :yingyang:
 
In two weeks, I move to Winnipeg's La Belle Neighbourhood, St Boniface! The wife wanted to go back to her old home, and now that they've finally got a Conservative MP, I can live there. So, we won't even need to be amongst the cochon-anglais to have that beer ;)
Unfortunately the likelyhood of marauding clays is slightly higher there than it is here, which is why I've finally got around to "Lazerifying and full Knoxxification" of the Ol' Griz.

This is very true, a shotgun needs around 18 inches to achieve full velocity. Anything less and you're losing time for the powder to burn and bring the whole works upto speed. I don't know if anyone's chronied one of these shortie's, but at 8.5" they'd be significantly slower.

These sporting guys, like to have their 26-32 inch barrels, as it makes for better balance, easier to swing onto target and other such similar reasons. Beyond 18 inches, they aren't really gaining any velocity, just getting a gun that works better for their specific purposes.
