Had a discussion today at the club..... anyone know off hand if it is possible (ie: legal) to import (or have imported by a dealer) a replacement barrel for a 12.6 item? If you were to damage, wear out or otherwise render an OEM barrel to the point where it made the firearm no longer shoot accurately could you get a new one brought in? I'm sure I can probably find it on the RCMP page but honestly.. I'm simply not in the mood to read thru all the drivel (and I'm feeling a little lazy right now too!):D

Regards,

A barrel (regardless of the firearm which it goes into) is classified as a firearm part. There are no regulations controlling the importation of firearm parts. The only piece of the firearm that is being regulated is the frame/receiver. In fact, you don't even need your PAL to get a barrel because its uncontrolled. If in doubt, CBSA website will answer your importing questions.

Not true, any handgun barrel under 105mm is a prohibited device and can not be imported, from the Firearms Act, nothing to do with CBSA except they'll seize it under authority of the firearms act and make sure you get charged with importing a prohibited device. (same as standard cap mags)

I`m not entirely certain if this is true. Yes, the barrel by itself is prohibited, but I`ll be surprised to find that it`s impossible to get an import permit to replace a damaged or destroyed barrel.

I mean ####, you can get an import permit for replacement parts for your full autos.:ar15:

Why not just call the CFP and ask what the procedure is for obtaining a replacement barrel for a registered 12(6) pistol?
Assuming the barrel is importable, there is still the issue of it being exported from the coutry of origin.

True, but none of those parts are specifically named as prohibited devices. Possessing them without a legal FA to put them in can certainly get you into legal trouble, but none of those parts are specifically prohibited like a short handgun barrel.

Regards,

Police Ordnance told me that - should it ever be required - they could legally replace any part - including an OEM-length (prohibited-length) barrel, and including the frame - on my 12.6 category grandfathered prohibited Glock. It would require paperwork, on their part, but they could do it.

I believe that this is probably true of most any import-licensed Canadian warranty station, regardless of the manufacturer.

Read the very first sticky in the legalese section on importing parts and ammo. On prohib parts it says that prohib parts may be imported but you may be required to prove you have both 12/6 and the particular gun the part is for. This sticky is a few years old and may be out of date, so it's probably best to inquire. I have some magazines on order for a prohib right now. I ordered them before I gave it a thought. I'll see if they get thru.
