If it's not a handgun caliber only range, usually you can shoot commercial ammo. just not the milsurp stuff

Visit Silverdale on a Saturday or Sunday, no membership needed. $20 and they have ranges up to 200yrds.

visit silverdalegunclub.com for more detailed info.

To put in lame man terms;
Any National Park (*Not Provincal*) or any land that is outside of town limit's that is not private property.
Check here to visualy see were you can find "Crown Land"

"...lame man terms..." Love it =)

Crown land is land owned by the Federal Government - "The Crown".

I dunno about out East, but in Alberta and Sask your firearms must be unloaded and stowed while in a National or Provincial Park? Jasper/Banff are both Nationals, and there are some pretty big signs reminding you that firearms are a no-no... There are two areas West of Calgary I can think of that are "multiuse recreational areas" where shooting is allowed, but AB F&G has ranges set up for that. Hydro cuts are a gray area - usually ok provided the utility company doesn't have them marked as a "Utility Corridor" - If they are marked, they're private property and you could be setting yourself up for a tresspassing charge.

Think of it thisway - If you can HUNT a piece of land, you can probably SHOOT there. Keep your sightlines and minimum distances from roads/buildings in mind.

So I went through the hunting regulations and found on page 92:
No person shall at any time:
• hunt, take or kill, or attempt to hunt, take or kill wildlife with
a weapon or discharge a weapon within 804 m of a school;
• discharge a firearm loaded with a rifle cartridge, single
ball, or slug within 402 m of a dwelling, playground,
golf course, athletic field, woods operation, place of
business, or public building other than a school;
• discharge a shotgun loaded with shot, a crossbow or
a bow within 182 m of a dwelling, playground, golf
course, athletic field, woods operation, place of
business, or public building other than a school;
• hunt, take or kill, or attempt to hunt, take or kill wildlife
that is within 182 m of a dwelling, playground, golf
course, athletic field, woods operation, place of
business, or public building other than a school.
So I'm assuming it's legal to shoot on a relative's farm, provided these distances and permissions stand.

Sorry to the OP for drifting off topic, though it could be relevant if you have a friend with a farm somewhere.
