Hi,
Aug 21 Range Report:
Managed to put about 100 rounds of handloaded .223 through the new rifle today, and it performed as well as I had hoped.
Zeroing didn't take much time, as the zero from my C8 that had been applied to my BUIS and Optic transferred over to the Noveske upper quite well. A couple clicks for point of aim POI at 50m, a confirmatory to ensure I was 50mm above my point of aim with my optic at 100m, and I was off to the long range.
Although I can't really comment on reliability with only 100 rounds fired, it didn't have any issues with the 69gr BTHP over 25.5 grains of Varget I fed it, including during rapid fire strings. It had no issues ringing the gongs out to 300m from the kneeling and prone, however I didn't have time to get any dope for 400m shooting. Next time I hope!
This 5 round group was the first fired after getting it onto the correct point of impact at 100m. It was fired from the prone supported. As you can see in the picture, from the outside edges it measures .619. I threw out the flyer there, obviously
So .619-.223= .396 4 round group! This Noveske barrel is obviously very capable....
Well, I finally broke down and bought my Ar15. No rounds downrange yet, but I hope to get it out this weekend and shoot some of my handloaded 69 gr rounds and see how she does. I installed alot of the parts I've acquired and used on my rifles over my past two deployments overseas, so I know they work and am very comfortable with them. You can still see tan spraypaint on alot of the parts if you look close, hours with goo gone and it still remains in a few spots
Big props to the following companies/people:
Questar- I bought the Noveske upper from them, and was very happy with their service.
Arms East- I called these guys a couple times, and they couldn't have been more helpful. They built the lower as I requested, shipped quickly, and could be counted on to return all calls and emails promptly. Plus, a military discount.
Blaxsun- He supplied me with the Troy front sight, Larue index clips, and soon some Larue handstops (in the mail!). Very solid guy to deal with, and he sells the real deal.
Specs:
Noveske 14.5 Afghan Upper built on the Vltor VIS receiver, 1/7 twist with:
Troy Folding Front and Rear Sights
BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle
Larue SPR Mount with Nightforce NXS 1-4x with FC-2 reticle
Larue Index Clips
Vortex Flash Suppressor
Stag Arms Lower with:
Vltor Carbine Buttstock
Magpul Miad Grip
I'll be throwing on my Vickers combat applications sling once my rail mount arrives, and that's about all the plans I have for it.
And if you're wondering, that is a genuine made in Pakistan, sold in an Afghan bazaar rug! High class stuff.
