I think you may have missed the first sentence, "The firearm of the design commonly known as the M-16 rifle, and any variant or modified version of it". That means any firearms that is variant of the m16 is restricted(i.e AR15, basically all AR's no matter caliber/lop are restricted so far) It doesn't matter if it is colt or not.

And there is an "AR" you can hunt with, not an AR15 though... it's the AR180B

If an original AI AR-10 was manufactured as restricted, it should be non-restricted. There is a story that there is one of these in Canada. However, only a handful were ever made.
As noted any AR or variant is restricted, apart from ARs maunfactured as selective fire which are prohibited 12(2) or 12(3).
Note that the law quoted above is based on the premise that ARs are M-16 derivatives. This is incorrect, of course. The M-16 evolved from the AR-15.

You guys have it all wrong...Its LOOKS that count as per RCMP.
So if it looks like an AR it is An AR!

Perfect example is the GSG-5 (looks like a HK MP5) but in .22LR and completely different mechanism(rimfire)...Prohibited as well.
You gotta love Canada...
