Mosin 91/30 PU Review - lots of pictures

I just sold one a few days ago here on the EE for $600, zeroed it on for the buyer the other day, excellent shooter and holds zero without problems (steel scope original of course, rifle is matching numbers all the way, no electro pencil at all). Honestly when you calculate the cost of the different parts, $600 is about the right price, 700 or even 800 is way out of line (rifle 180, scope and mount 280, bent bolt 100, install 50). Many dealers asking those prices have their inventory sitting for quite a while already and not moving.

Scianna54 that grouping is impressive.
ArtyMan, many in this thread seem to like the SVT over the MN. What type of accuracy can the SVT deliver compared to the MN? Moreover can hunting bullets cycle in the semi-automatic well. I know some people have written that soft points may cause stoppages.

In regards to accuracy it all really depends on condition and which model of Mosin your talking about. Im sure the SVT in good condition vs a Mosin carbine in similar conditopm will out shoot the Mosin, however a 91/30 would most likely out shoot the SVT. Again it all depends on condition!

I have never fired soft point out of this particular rifle but I cant see it being a problem. That being said I have NOT done it, so I cant really say.

I'm thinking of asking for a infantry mosin for christmas, are they usually in the 500$ range or could I make do with a 120ish$ one and simply just screw on a modern winchester scope for now until I can afford the optics separately?

I wouldn't screw anything on there that isn't either A) reversable or B) historically accurate.

With that in mind, the gun will run you about $150 to $250 depending on condition and your negotiating skill + ship

Scope I don't remember, the repros are all around the same price because they're not common, and rarely available second hand.

Just remember - don't go cheap out on a screw on "bent" bolt because it's a few bucks less. That'll cost you in appearance and if you ever have to sell. Same goes for scopes - spend the extra $20 for a nicely milled mount and proper scope setup and you'll be well served.

P.S. Iron sighted mosins aren't necessarily inaccurate... you just have to learn how to shoot them ;)

Sometimes the iron sights arent aligned properly and can be off themselves. You can try the bore sighting method with iron sights aswell, you'll be surprised at how far off they can be at times, depending on the rifle. Most Soviet combat rifles are sighted from the factory at 300m

Consider the rifles are originally zeroed for use with the bayonet on which may explain the sights being slightly out of alignment on some of them, not to mention sitting around a arms depot since WW2. :D

ArtyMan I'm loving the pics, your adding fuel to my recently kindled Mosin addiction. :)

Mind you the $795.00 to $1200.00 that I see some dealers are asking for these rifles is rather silly IMHO.

Couldnt agree with you more! I recently found my 1939 Tula 91/30 to hit point of aim everytime at 300m with the bayonet fixed. Without I was looking at about a foot high and a foot right. During refurb parts were just thrown on aswell and I do not believe they were re zero'd :p

Thanks for the kind words gents! much appreciated

Somes may not like because its a repro but in this condition, its hard to complain even if its not the "real deal" I hope to have time to zero it. I'm very pleased with the rifle:D

That's a nice looking rifle for sure, now you've got me interested in one for a Christmas present! I've done business with P&S before, and Jean's service is top notch. I'll be waiting anxiously for your range report.

I was actually thinking about getting one of these.
You've made me want one even more.
The groups look pretty good too for a milsurp rifle.

That was my first time out with it. The groups have only gotten tighter and are now centered! The rifles are capable.

I just got my crate of ammo from marstar. i'll be sighting mine in asap. pictures to come of course. Anybody else use surplus ammo to sight in a PU mosin?
