OK I know this is a pretty newb question but bear with me.

I like to handle my Mossber 500 12g just because its so damn ###y. And well I am kind of in love with the Chuck-chuck sound it makes when you work the pump. Can this do any damage to my gun? I know not to dry fire it and its always unloaded when I do this.

Kind of unrelated, maybe not, but after 200ish rounds, my 835 Mossy will spit 2.75" shells on the ground instead of chambering them if I rack it too fast. 3" magnums will feed just fine.

And, no, there is no need to not dry fire it. Indeed, if you want to become proficient at operating the beast, you must dry practice, including dropping the trigger, several times a week.

You mean with those dummy rounds that you can safely fire with out the bang... Snap caps are they called??

snap caps are good but in a centerfire it's debatable wheather it hurts it or not. everyone has their opinons on it, however snap caps definately can't hurt.

"...Snap caps are they called??..." Yep. Not exactly cheap things. Fortunately, you don't really need 'em for centre fire. You can dry fire a Mossberg 500 all you want. Won't hurt it and you'll get very fast with it. Door knobs at the end of a hallway make good aiming points. Good for dry fire practice with a handgun or rifle too.
Not a good idea to practice in front of a window though. Nosy neighbours are well known for calling police any time they see a firearm.

NEVER, EVER pump it on the front lawn while wearing a mask and a green speedo!!!

awww way to ruin my fun

But on another note I didnt realize dry firing a centerfire would do no harm. Now that I know that I'm going to be playing with my guns all the time.

Don't mean to thread jack, but I guess I am, but here goes....
That shell on the ground thing is not cool - mine did the same thing. The fix, according to the gentleman at one of the warranty centres (Gretsh outdoors, in ON) is to replace the shell stop interrupter and the part that looks almost just like it on the opposite side of the receiver. Maybe you can get them to send you those 2 little stamped steel parts, should solve your problem and you can easily change them yourself!

Thanks, best lead I've gotten so far!
