I was wondering which weight I should go with in my old 303 for white tail hunting? My local shop has winchester 150's and 180's

Thanks

I load my own started with a lee loader now I have a press. I load Barnex TSX over 49gr of IMR 4350 Shoots like a dream. Dropped a bear and a deer last year no tracking just dead right there. Comercial loads I liked winchester power points but each rifle is different by a box of each and see which is more accurae for you. If not by one and shoot it. Either way round fireed on a range are worth every penny. You can afford to miss paper...

I found best accuracy was with the 180 grain in my full length barreled Lee Enfield. I mostly used Winchester Silvertips for hunting.

In my sporterized Lee Enfield (short barrel) the 150 grains seemed better on average. With Dominion/IVI ammo the 180 grains were very good in the original barrel, and the 150's in the shorter barrel.

At present I have a pair of Jungle Carbines I use and a variety of bullets including a couple of cast. If I had to go with just one it would be the Hornady 174gr RN and 0.312". I seem to get better results/groups paper punching with bullets 0.312" than with those measuring 0.311".

That's how it is for me, too. I have taken deer with .311 diameter 125gr, 150gr and 180gr reloads but now my reloads are all Hornady round nose 174gr with .312 diameter. With factory ammunition my rifles also work well enough with Remington 180gr CorLokt and Federal 150gr and 180gr.

Try out whatever you like the look of and see what works best accuracy-wise for your rifle. If you are hitting them in the right place, 150gr is enough, and 180gr isn't too much.

always used imperial 180 grains in my enfield.had some reloaded stuff that shot like crap because they just pulled the FMJ military bullets and dropped some 174 grain round nosed bullets on top of existing powder. they were rounds that came with the rifle.

I love the Hornady 174's as well. They shoot the best for me.

Haven't seen the head to head comparison on meat yet though.

When I 'started out' the 'go to' ammo at that time for Moose, according to Dad was Dominion/C.I.L. 215gr loads. With that in mind I lucked into a couple hundred 215gr Woodleigh bullets I thought I'd use to 'reminisce';) days past. Like the Hornady 174gr RN, these are 0.312" but the 174's are still the most accurate, for me.
