As for the D-ring...I can pull it back barehanded but it's like it doesn't quite go far enough (so I had to use some prying tools and finesse to get the extra few millimetres of space necessary to remove the handguards). This is the only time I've run into this situation. I've changed HG's a number of times without it being this tight. I guess next time I'll tape the D-ring to save it from the scuffs...but for this one I'll probably end up swapping out the D-ring for a new one. Live and learn!!

my colt upper does the same thing.. i can pull it back almost to the end with my hands , then i have to pry it to get it the rest of the way.. i guess if they came off too easy, the ranges would be littered with handguards.
 
Well my parts finally arrived and I think I built the most frugal but reliable M4! :p Going to co-witness the iron sights with the red dot tomorrow. I should have a nice range report as I plan on putting this thing through the ringer!

Very nice... Pretty impressive, especially for the price!

Hard to knock the Chinese on these rifles. Pretty superb quality and dollar value.

Over and over again I've been impressed by just how hard the steel is on Norinco guns. And I say that as a forensic structural engineer. Finishes often leave something to be desired, function does not.

What I did with mine is put the stock on the floor, barrel pointing up and cupped the Delta ring with one hand pulling down towards the floor. Depending on which part of the old forend I wanted to take off I had my thumb and forefinger almost touching on that side. You can push down a little further on the side you want off then repeat for the other side.
 
If it makes anyone happy...I can remove the HG's easily now (relatively)...but putting them back on is still a bi#ch...and cbabes suggestion above does work well.
 
I'm curious and a nosey little bugger...your rear sight .. is it an NcSTAR MARFLR flip -up ? Id like to use one but need to know if it's adjustable for both windage and elevation and how do you like it ?

Yes it is. I am leaving for the range right now. Will let you know as this will be the first time I use it.
 
I shot around 200 rounds today at 25m and 50m. I successfully co-witnessed the sights. This target is me standing and holding on to my new forend grip at 50m. :p I like it. I shot 5 rounds on this target using the iron sights and 5 rounds using the Aimpoint. They are very close. Happy with the results as I am not experienced with M4s. On to the 100m next time.

I believe just windage. I like it. It did just what I bought it. Co-witnessed with my Aimpoint at the club today. Well worth the money.
