ATT for buying online

I don't no if this has been asked yet but if you buy a restricted from xyz store in Ontario and need it shipped to Ontario or buy it in Vancouver and need it shipped to Ontario, do you just need to have the transfer into your name approved then they can ship it out to you or can they ship it right away or do you have to wait for some type or TATT?

They can ship it right away. If you aren't home when CP tries to deliver you will (by the letter of the law) need a STATT to pick it up from the Post Office.

Wrong. It's a piece of mail, not a gun. As such, you can take it home from the post office without an ATT. However, you would need an ATT to take it to the post office to ship it.
 
Don't you need an ATT issued before they can even transfer the firearm into your name? Pretty sure that when the RCMP notifies the CFO of the transfer that the transfer will be put on hold until you are issued an ATT.

So what makes it a gun going to the post office when it's wrapped up and ready to be mailed but not a gun when it's picked up?

Theoretically speaking, if you know that the parcel you are picking up is a restricted firearm, you would need a STATT from the post office to your house. However, if you "do not know" the parcel you are picking up is a firearm, then you don't need to (as you can't identify the goods until you have opened the parcel and looked at the goods). If you opened the box at the post office and found a restricted firearm, then a STATT is required.
 
i bot one last week, in Ont, shipped to Ont about 100 miles, the gun shop registers it in your name, and THEY are given an ATT to ship it. YOU just pick it up like a regular parcel (if you miss it at delivery time).

Easier than picking it up, an you save the gas money.

Works the same way if you ship intra Province.

Bingo. Unless your psychic or have x-ray vision, how can you tell for certain that the contents of that parcel is a restricted firearm? As the shipper, you know what's in the package because YOU wrapped it up. But as the receiver, you have no obligation to know what's in your mail until you've ripped the wrapping off.

So how often do you recieve notices of attempted delivery from Canada post? When you're waiting for a firearm you know damn well when it's supposed to be at your door and what has failed to be delivered when you go to the post office... I know I'm not the only one who stalks Canada posts Tracking service when I'm waiting for a new firearm. All I'm saying is that "should" a cop pull you over and search your vehicle after you claim there's no firearms and he finds one... well you know how that's going to end up... and let's not turn this into a "well a cop can't do that" discussion because we all know that some cops tend to do as they wish.
 
I always enjoy these threads and I'm pretty sure I'm right. What logic???

Me. "Hey honey, whats in the parcel you picked up at the post office?"

Wife. "I don't know, its addressed to you, I didn't open it."

Me. "Oh lookie, my new pistol is here!"

Wife. "What did you say?"

Me. "Nothing dear".

When you take it to the post office it hasn't been postmarked and put into the system so it is not yet mail. On the other hand, when you pick up a piece of mail from the post office it remains mail until you open it. That's my take on it. I don't think it has been tested in the courts.
 
If you pick it up at the post office it is just mail. The postie who was trying to deliver it probably does not have a restricted PAL or a blanket ATT just in case he/she has to deliver a possible firearm.
 
If you've received it, then it is no longer post. I personally phone in to get the stATT number before heading out. The max time it has taken is 5 minutes with waiting for a free person.

That depends entirely on the wording of your ATT. I hear some provinces used to have provisions that allowed things like taking it to a smith and back etc. Mine is pretty cut and dry - take to any CFO approved range and back.
