870 express loose trigger assembly

Friend of mine just bought a brand new 870 express from shooters choice in waterloo and after firing 50+ rounds he brought it to me and I noticed quite alot of side to side movement in the trigger assembly.

Now I have no idea if this is normal it sure as hell shouldnt be for a brand new gun nor do I know if it was like this when he bought it. He took it back after I pointed it out, they said all 870 express's do that and there is nothing wrong with it.

I have a dominion arms grizzly that has better fit and finish of this gun. The trigger assembly is solid and all metal. Ive never seen this before on any 870 or mossberg 500. it sounds to me like shooters choice is trying to pull one over here.

anybody have any input on this help me out
 
Hard to say what is going on, be it a quality control issue or what.

Take the pins out and check the fit. Swap your DA trigger assembly in and swap the Express into yours to check for fit...
 
Your friend should demand an exchange loose anthing on a brand new gun is not acceptable, bottom line they should replace it or get your friend a new trigger group. I have fired hundreds of rounds through my 870 an no problems, no miss feeds, no jams, no rust either!!!
 
I purchased an 870 express super-mag there two weeks ago. About 150 shots ran through it same problem. I'm going to break the gun down and reassemble it I'll let you know how it goes.
 
Mine is over 5 years old, no idea how many rounds through it, though not too many; however, everything is still nice and tight.

Is your friend's Express one with the polymer trigger plate assembly mechanisms?

Is there excessive space between the inside of the receiver and the sides of the trigger plate?

Or do you mean there's excessive horizontal trigger movement in the trigger plate assembly?

Exactly how picky are you guys being? A Swiss watch it is not. :)

Keep in mind your friend bought the most economical shotgun REM makes for the least amount of money.
 
roger that. It does have a polymer assembly. I am just wondering if these lower end 870's have this problem.

im gona go check it out at the shop myself.
 
Just got home and checked mine, no play whatsoever. But I am surprised to see that it has the same trigger and safety as my Marlin 795 .22
 
i have 12 + 870s and non one them have this issue
Check all the express,s at works , non one them have that slop.
But i have seen this in some 870 express guns

If you took it to the gun smith on site,he is a lazy ass (my opinion only ).I purchased a 870 there and the gun was very hard to rack,took it there under warranty and was told that was normal.
I have 3 others that don't have a problem,after I disassembled and polishing all the parts,receiver on one side, slides bolt and bolt parts it know works like it should.

The extractor was making a groove on the inside of the receiver and the bolt was polished so it would not rub on the receiver This is normal? Send it back under warranty don't take no for an answer.Ps they are cheaply made guns and are not built like the old ones.
 
I did a complete breakdown of my 870 express synthetic. It still has a little play in the trigger assembly. Its maybe a millimeter of wiggle left to right looks to be just the way it was built, but for under $400 I dont expect perfection. The options (imo) are to place two small shims by the push pins (washers would do) or just let it wiggle. I dont notice it unless im looking for it and she still shoots fine.
