Clinic
Ya, there was a clinic in Calgary a couple of weeks ago. I know my brand new poly required a shim, as per the video (above). He spoke about all sorts of things pertaining to the M14, including headspace, new bolts (if required) and other tips and tweeks.
Try to get a clinic when you can. Otherwise, I also have a couple of shims that I could send you, but you may want to get familiar with the rifle and take it apart. Don't worry, it's not going to break and definitely not too fragile.

Make your own shims?...Nope, it's way cheaper to take Hungry's clinic - don't worry, he'll be back in Alberta next year - and make a whack of them. That's what I did. I have plenty and can send you one or two if you need. That's all I did for about 20 minutes at his clinic. Pounded the hell out of that sheet metal, and no...did not leave any DNA.

Then you weren't doing it right. A proper Hungry M14 build needs blood, sweat, and tears (and some swearing, very important) or your #### will fall off!

I dunno. I just aimed the hammer at the shaft (for the shim) and gave it an almighty swing. Never came close to my ####. Ouch, that woulda hurt!
Others left blood...so they were baptized, I guess. Maybe next time.

Youtube is also your friend! I've seen a couple of good clips on taking your trigger group apart on Youtube.

Thanks for the input. My new poly seems to be a good specimen. it has a very tight bolt and opp. rod, index looks good and passes the tllt test, slicker then snot on a door knob. Only beef is I got one with that sucky non vented flash hider. Soon to be changed though. Trigger is good. Waiting for my sadlak steel mount to arrive to scope it. Then wring it out and see how it shoots.
I have the last Hungry B.C. Seminar that I organized and was held at Abbotsford Fish & Game a few years back on DVD (2 DVDs).....
If someone is willing to make copies for those that are interested, I will send them a copy..........I don't have the time to make and mail out copies, but if someone else is willing to take time, I will pass a copy on to them at no charge...........
We went over the M14 basics ( disassembly,lubricationetc), rebarrelled a couple guns, removed Flash suppressors, installed cheekrests, and Steel bedded a couple of rifles, and talked about Canadian friendly companies and part that won't make your #### fall off........
Just shoot me a PM........
