I've been in the CF for a little over 21 years now and I've not once come across one of these little plinkers. It's featured nicely on the CF Small Arms poster, so it must be in the inventory. But the hell if I know where to find one. While I enjoy cranking away on the 225 (or HP if the occasion presents), it would be fun once in a while to pull the trigger on a wheel gun.

Anyone in uniform ever seen one? Does anyone know if they've ever been surplused out? It would be a nice addition to the collection.

When I was just a kid, I asked my dad (RCN officer) if I could see the ship's armory when the ship was tied up alongside on a quiet Sunday afternoon. (HMCS Annapolis, DDH 265) He called the supply tech in charge and I got to see the small arms lock-up.
The usual FNs galore & SMGs, I remember a 44 Magnum H&R single shot line throwing gun though.
There were several of those Colt Officer's Target Model revolvers, in 22 LR on the pistol rack indeed, next to the Browning Hi-Powers.
This was in the mid-1970's.

This was the only time I've seen them, and I don't know what became of them.

I used one in Shilo in the late '80s. The unit (3 RCHA) had it in stores, for training I guess. I pulled it out to help train the pistol team. It was a 6" barreled revolver and was essentially pristine.

Approx 10 years ago I was in the Weapons Tech Section at CFB Kingston on business and in one of the rooms amongst many other firearms were approx 12-15 of those .22 cal revovers you refer to.

I inquired as to thier use and the NCO told me they were used by the Royal Military College. I believe he also said they were used by a club or team based at the college. They all appeared to be in excellent shape.

They had them at my old reserve unit in BC around '98. Once the .22 range was decommissioned the .22 FN's Colts and C-7 inserts seemed to have disappeared. From what I remember they looked rather used. Maybe track down a NSN?

I haven't seen one in at least 12 years. It was my understanding at that time all .22 revolvers on issue at that time, in the west in Army units were to be turned into LFWA. When I was in Borden in the early '80's, they got a lot of use at the Base Pistol club.

While training in Kingston in the late 80's I had the opportunity to take 4 weeks of pistol target shooting as part of some strange Military Indoctrination Program (more like fun activities in the evening and weekend. We were using those revolvers, as well as Ruger semi-auto .22s. There was an indoor .22 range in the basement of the drill hall where we practiced Base Defense Force. There were quite a few and in really nice shape.

Im pretty sure their 12 (6) arent they ?
Nope,, 6" barrels. Wouldn't apply anyway as CF weapons are exempt from the Firearms act.

My unit had about 6 of these back in the 80's. They disappeared sometime in the 1990s, when the indoor .22 ranges we shut down.
Nice little pistols. Still in the system as far as I know.

We definitely don't have those revolvers at RMC anymore. The shooting team/club at the college was disbanded roughly 5 years ago. The small indoor range has since been renovated into a library. I know a few of us wouldn't mind having them back.

At RMC we are lucky if we get to shoot once a year on top of whatever the army guys do during the summer. Doesn't give the Air Force and Navy folks at the college much of a chance to stay current.

When I was in, my reserve unit had six or eight. They were good little guns. The only real problem was getting spares if something broke. I'd be surprised if there were very many still in service. I did a little digging once and found Canadian NSNs for the S&W 41 and Ruger MK 1. I could never find a unit that had them. Heard a rumor they were purchased for a CF pistol club at RMC.

Do you know what the reasonning behind shutting it down was? Seems like a pretty stupid idea to me :\

When we switched to the C7 we kept a few C1s so we could keep using the subcal kits. The catch was the system was not going to get anymore parts for the kits so when we used up the parts in system and the kits wore out they would not be replaced. As this was going on the switch was being made to the small arms simulators and .22 ammo was harder and harder to get.

Something to do with lack of ventilation in the indoor ranges. And the CF not willing to spend the money on required renovations, disposal of contaminates and a new air ventilation system up to legal code.

Now all of thier shooting, is carried out, at the ranges of CFB Kingston, IIRC.
