went to the range today to try a couple loads out in a savage 10FP (308) and dont know what one to go with as some are pretty close . what would you tinker with ? what would be your next move? It was hot today as well (34c) , I am shooting 15 thou off the lands , varget for 1->6, benchmark 7-8, WLR primers

Give me some Ideas

What bullet? Personally I would work with 45gr Varget, and play with the seating depth. There is no speed gain there after 45gr...

You have identified a bullet and powder range that appears to have a sweet spot between 45 and 45.6 grains. I'd make 9 of each of the best loads and see what the average of 4 ( original plus 3 more) is before making my final decision. The as mentioned above you could take the best load and experiment with seating depth or even primers. Experimenting to find the best load for a rifle is one of the most enjoyable aspects of reloading for many.

What is your goal with this rifle/load? Target, long range or hunting?
You have gone from right to left with the best groups at 44.5, 45 and 45.4. Velocity peak seems to be about 45. If I were to pick one only it would be 45.2. That seems to be the closest to a velocity peak and centered barrel harmonic. Then try it out to 200 yds.

The vertical strings are very consistant and to me looks like a minor bedding issue. Have you checked the action screws to see if there tight, the recoil lug face is in contact with the stock, and the barrel and the sides of the receiver should not be touching the stock.

the vertical strings only seem to be with the benchmark loads , the scope was adjusted up befor load#3 and again befor #4 and then moved left befor #4 group was fired and also left befor #5.

I would tinker with seating depth on the 45 grains load. If for some weird reason that load isn't good enough for you I would suggest trying reloder 15.

My results with it were better than Varget.
