New big game rifle for my sweety! (With update)

My wife decided to come along elk hunting this fall so she needed to upgrade from the 30-30 to something a little more big game flexible......
Solution: a Browning X-bolt Micro Hunter in .308 is inbound! :ar15:She will have to put up with the junky Tasco scope in the safe until I save a few bucks for a Vortex Viper 3-9x40 BDC to top it off properly but I suspect the elk won't notice the difference. ;)
Epps still has one or two in stock if anyone is interested.

I hear you jaydog just bought a remington 700 youth in 7mm-08 for the Mrs and she is going to have to put up with the tasco scope in the safe as well lol

In my opinion, the 2 best variable power scopes are the 1.5-6x or the 2-8x. Small, handy, great light gathering ability, obviously very good at close yardage (in the timber).

You are right, but the piggy bank is empty today.... so the crappy Tasco it is! This way she will truly appreciate the upgrade in scope later. :D My mother in-law would get an empty toilet paper roll for a scope. :eek:
The idea of putting on a 2-7x32 is a good one though- I just might take a look through one next time I'm in a hunting store.
 
Her gun arrived and we went out to the 'range' yesterday.

REVIEW: This is a nice looking firearm! Despite being woman/youth sized it still fits me at 6'2" and the wood and metal finish is top notch. Bolt movement is crisp and the short throw is a pleaure to use.

RANGE: I was using 165gr Fusion ammo since I don't reload and thats what she will hunt with. Recoil is a solid push, not snappy, which is surprising considering how light the gun is. My wife had no problem with the recoil at all. Accuracy was not really tested since our shooting rest was a couple rolled up towells :redface: but its fair to say that a deer at 200yds better be wearing camo or a bulletproof vest! :D

LADIES NOTE: Apparently the little rubbery headband thingees are a must have for range days to keep your bangs out of your eyes. Also, your Carhartt 'ladies fit' fleece vests make great recoil absorbers. :cool:

The pictures back me upon that. Wonderful shooting by "the Wife" sir. Kudos to your instruction as well.

I was thinking of getting the X-bolt in 270wsm, in my area I'd get the most use out of it, besides I'm tired of watching all the coyotes run at 500yards behind my house :)

You got that right. My wife is without a doubt the deadliest shot I've seen with rifle, muzzleloader or handgun. I quickly learned to say "Yes dear!". The very first time she fired a firearm, it was a SW Model 57 in 41 mag. I explained how to #### the revolver, how to get her sight picture, and told her to shoot at a can in the sandpit where we were. The can was about 10 yds. away. She fired and missed. I told her not to be disappointed. She replied what do you mean? I hit the can! She was shooting at an oil can at least 40 yds. away and hit it. Several years later, she put 3 shots into the lungs of a cow moose at 220 paces using a s/a AK47. I am a very polite husband.

Ain't that the truth! I have a picture of the arrow she shot into another arrow at 25 yards last fall with my xbow. BS luck I'm sure, but I have still yet to do it..... :redface: If being the second best shot in the family is what it takes to have a wife that likes hunting then so be it! :D
