Finally Done?? After trying almost every combination of rails, uppers, barrel lengths etc etc etc, I think I'm finally done now. The only vital piece missing is the Troy QD insert for the TRX cooling holes. I'll need that to attach the front of the sling to.

I tried to make the rifle as light and fast as possible, which included using a FF handguard that I might not have otherwise picked. The ability to only have a small portion of rail for mounting my light saved a load of weight.

The use of the LaRue mounts was necessary so I could remove items quickly and save more weight. The flashlight is only on if it's low light and if I only want to shoot close quarters, the magnifier can pop right off too.

For those who are contemplating the Magpul BAD or who think it is a "gimmick", I would recommend trying one out. I've been using one for about five or six months now. The speed for mag changes and stoppage drills is lightning fast! Great product!

Here's the run down:

- LaRue Upper
- Daniel Defense Cold Hammer Forged 16" 1/7 barrel
- Spike's Micro Gas Block (Pinned)
- SEI Vortex
- Troy TRX Extreme 13"
- PRI Gas Buster
- Spike's M16 Bolt Group
- Troy BUIS
- Aimpoint T1 & Magnifier w/LaRue
- LMT lower with 2 stage trigger group
- Magpul BAD
- Magpul CTR
- Hogue Grip
- SF mini scout light w/LaRue mount

I'd bet you re-think 'done' when you compare it to a 16" with a mid-length gas system....:p sorry, don't mean to rain on your parade - nice build:D

Very slick.... Any plans on painting the rail to match?

Probably. I don't really care either way though. The paint that I used on the rifle was kind of an experiment. The rail will get krylon which won't really match but what the hell.

I know. I still would like to put a mid length gas system on there but this will work for now.

Very nice!

How you liking the Troy rail? I like that it only has the top rail and then the "add on" rails on the side. Seems to be a lot more versatile and lighter than a full quad rail.

Too darned ugly to shoot. Send it to me so you don't embarrass yourself when you go to the range.:p A little accuracy review would be nice.;)

I'll get you your accuracy review soon ;). Anyone who is interested, there are two DD barrels for sale at ATRS for $275 a piece. Pretty good price for a 16" cold hammer forged 1/7 twist barrel.

How are you liking it so far?

I am thinking of building a very similar setup with the same rail and 16 inch barrel.

I would like a mid length gas system but it seems the only way to get one is a custom barrel.

One shot is selling SR15 uppers. They are midlength.

If you are really wanting a mid length, then just buy the Daniel Defense upper from Wolverines ( http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/webdox/pricelists/Daniel Defense September 2010 - Retail.pdf ) and put handguard of your choice

BTW - the KAC SR15 is not a "true" Midlength...its actually a wee bit longer ( Kevin can verify this but I belive its the gas tube of the SR25 )

here is a pic of a mid length Noveske N4 next to a SR-15. Compare the location of the gas tube roll pin

To further confuse, Noveske has their "intermediate" gas system...longer than mid length, shorter than rifle. The Noveske Intermediate is a bit ( about 3/4" ) longer yet than the KAC Midlength

Pick below, is Rifle, Noveske Intermediate, Mid Length, Carbine. As you can see from the pic above, the KAC Midlength is longer than the standard midlength
