Just bought a new vtr. shoots wel. without any feeding problems.
my only gripes are that the trigger is pretty stiff. and i think it may be contributing to the less than impressive grouping @ 50 yards.

Im shooting a crapy 3-9 tasco scope and winchester x-pert hi velocity rounds. Im thinkin these two things are also contributing to the problem.
I bought the rifle slighly used (less than a box of ammo through). And id think that it should a tack driver with the heavy barrel.
Any suggestions?

try putting the VQ parts in it, also i find the federal bulk shoots well in my rifle 2nd only to mini mags

My advice regarding the 597:

Buy a Ruger.

I own two 597's. Complete trash they are. One is the VTR model and the either the target heavy barrel in the laminate stock. Both guns have had their extractors fail, and drop out of the gun. They fail to reliably feed, even with the new style mags. And the machining of the receiver and internal parts looks like a kindergarten class was given some material and dremel tool and told to make a rifle.

I was going to put them up on the EE, but have decided to leave them in the safe. I don't want to put that burden on another shooter.

When they did work for their short lifespans. I found that Remington Thunderbolts proved to be most accurate compared to other types of the cheaper side of .22.

Winchester Xpert High Velocity... I've got 2000 rounds of it sitting in my safe. It's not the most accurate at 100 yards but at 50 yards you should have no problem at all.

but that being said EVERY rimfire is different. You could buy 10 of the same firearms and each one might shoot better with a different type of ammo.

Have you tried different ammo? Same Results? My guess would be a gun problem.

Hello here are a few links

First replace the hammer and extractor, this will lower the trigger pull form the 10lbs or so to around 3lbs I love my VTR now I have completed this. This made all the difference and my grouping are tighter. At 100 yards.

I'll give you 100.00 dollars for the VTR! if it's trash to you.

What kind of gun problem could it be?
