hello,
i am a newbie on that forum, i need some advises about a rifle for hunting, not expensive.
i have the scope and the rings. I would prefer a synthetic stock.
thank's for all

270 WSM may be the best of all the short mags. I agree that if it is properly loaded, it could be the only gun a person needs for big game - of course we all know that never works.

I use a 270 WSM in a Kimber. It is not a cheap rifle but it is my choice for best rifle for the money, my second choice would be the Winchester M70 Featherweight or SS models also excellent rifles just a little heavier and alot cheaper.

Pick one you like the feel of and spend the cash.
A good pick will last forever, a cheap pick will bother you till you sell it.

They are all good, but remember, you get what you pay for.

I currently use a Savage Model 14 American Classic in 270 WSM. I love everything about this rifle. It has a wooden stock but Savage makes other models with synthetic. Good quality and prices are reasonable. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Start out with a Savage, and if you want to change in the future you can.
Good Luck.

I agree. it doesnt matter what rifle you get if it doesn't fit you then its no good to you.

If you can swing a few extra bucks, IMHO you simply cannot go wrong with a Tikka T3. People spend a helluva lot of money on much higher end rifles and only hope they will shoot as well as this puppy!

And the .270 WSM is just about spot on perfect for N. American game short of griz.

A Limbsaver recoil pad is a good idea if you go this route.

Tikka T3 Lite for the price. Maybe the Sako A7. I love the Sako m75 rifles but that may be not what your looking for initially.

I have two Tikka T3 LS 270WSM rifles - love the caliber and gun. 140gr Accubonds and your good to go for elk, moose, deer.

Asking what rifle to buy is kind of asking what kind of car to buy. You've already settled on getting something with a 200 hp v6 (270 WSM). Big enough for pretty much anything you can throw at it without being stupidly overpowered. Now you have to "test drive" a few.

My suggestion: Weatherby Vanguard or Remington 700. Why? Just because those are my favorites!

But seriously, shoulder a dozen different rifles. Pick your favorite. Don't mind what everyone on this board has to say.... we're all just a buncha nutz!

thank's to all messages and your advises.
these are the pics of one of my rifle, but only for "long distance shooting", not for hunting due to its weight and the ammunitions used.

- Remington 700 Police 300WM with ...

that's why, i need a rifle relatively light and not expensive in order to hunt first of all and secondly to customize it...

That caliber would be my pick for new as well.
Speaking of new, I just received the new WSS catalogue in the mail yesterday.
If you're into Remington products, there is a $100 cash back on a few select Model 700's.
Happy hunting.
Regards.

If you're looking for light synthetic, the kimber montana is the lightest you will find but beware of the recoil. The .270wsm has alot of snort and a lightweight won't absorb as much of it. Like the other guy's said, try a couple and find one that fits you, if you don't like it it doesn't really matter what it is and what you paid for it.
