I have a Remington 740 semi that has all sorts of misfires, FTEs, FTLs, and the occasional hammer that won't drop when the trigger is pulled. I know the gun is not under warranty so I'm reluctant to send it to the manufacturer.. but I'm wondering if different load data could reduce / correct these issues. It does seem to be better with some loads than others..
Right now I've been firing it with 49 gr of IMR4895 and 150 gr speer Round SP. The groupings on it are nice, but it has FREQUENTLY the problems listed above.

I've cleaned the gun out completely, but other hardware problems may be the cause too..

Sounds like the firing pin is warn or dirty. It needs to punch into the primer real hard. you might want to look at your empties and/or take them to someone who can tell you if they're going deep enough.

I was thinking that too for the misfires and was seeing some primers that look like they were hit, but did not detonate because they did not hit deep enough.. but didn't think it explained the FTE/FTL's.. Does it?

Perhaps your gas ports to cycle the action need some TLC. If the bolt doesnt close fully, it wont fire.. Would cause the other problems as well. Best of luck.
