My brand new one just arrived today. Anyone know where to get mags for them? Might be interested in one or two extra ones.

As for the rifle first impressions are nice EXCEPT that the stock is hollow and feels hollow. Other than that the rifle feels nice and I love the oversized bolt knob.

Can't shoot it since I still have to wait for my scope, bases, and rings :D

if you are looking for 223 factory det mags, contact Savage directly. They are likely the only ones that can offer them

Have you tried the other big mail order shops like WSS? and Frontier, P&D, and Badger arms?

Sorry, no hi cap versions.

So far I've only tried Cabelas, WSS, and Ellwood Epps. I'll have to give Savage Arms a call on Monday about them.

Well I got the rifle out today after getting my last few items from mysticplayer!

The scope is A LOT larger than I first thought 6-24x50 and with the sunshade on the scope comes to the end of the forestock :p

It took me abit to learn how to shoot with this rifle though. The shoulder pad is this really weird gel stuff, sort of like those Doctor Soles Gelpads for your feet. When I thought I was putting it against my shoulder tight enough and pulled the trigger my shots were flying. I had to mentally remind myself to REALLY pull the rifle in close.

Another thing is the mag for the rifle can be annoying to seat in properly since it sits flush with the bottom of the rifle. Sometimes I'd put the mag in and not realize that it's not seated properly until my last round refuses to load. The end closest to the trigger loves to hang a hair down if you don't push it in 100%.

Other than that the rifle was perfect. I sighted it in to 100 yards and at 200 yards I seemed to drop 1-2 inches although I didn't shoot much at 200 since I ran out of targets.

I was only using 55gr American Eagle since that is the heaviest the local store had in.

Instead of holding it in tight, try just touching the rear of the stock with your shoulder and let the recoil pad take up the recoil. You will feel the pad squish then spring forward in a gentle push.

When you get that flow repeatable, I find that to be the most consistent for keeping groups tight and vertical down.

With those mags, I put the rear in first till it stops, then rock the front into place. Locks the mags in properly everytime.

Enjoy your new rifle and consider bedding and bolt timing as future upgrades.

Of course reloading is a good thing too.

Thats what I was trying at first but then kept pulling my shots (High and to the left) :(

If I pulled it in tight then I was getting really nice groupings.

Just a thought

Hey, Im no expert on these guns... but might have an idea. If a guy epoxied a tube down around the stock bolt, then use solid fill (like you use in bob cat tires so save yourself from flats) to even out the weight to the desired amount. Solid fill is an extremely heavy substance and would not take much.

Or just use sticky lead weights also found at the tire shop....

Sorry for the crappy picture but I forgot to take the camera out to the range. Next time, I promise!
