Converting CZ858 into precision style rifle? Anyone tried?

Hi folks, just curious, does anyone know if there is a manufacturer that can provide a relatively inexpensive longer, more precise barrel for the CZ858 platform?

Essentially, a way to turn it into something like a SVD/dragunov style rifle, but chambered in 7.62X39. (I would make my own custom furniture for it). I just need a barrel and I suppose sights (that SVD style bracket on the side).

Essentially, I want a coyote gun, and was thinking .... "hmmm...the ammo is super cheap to practice with, and I already have the gun...could I make this thing more like a russian sniper rifle/precision rifle? Let's ask the smart folks on CGN, since I know nothing!" lol (or something like that)

You guys always have awesome info, and there are always project builders on here, so help me out! I promise to return the favour if there is a topic I have knowledge of (photography, drawing....? lol)

Thanks!

EDIT ********

I found THESE pics online, and it is EXACTLY what I want to build up (except on a budget, so probably not as tacticool)

PS SORRY FOR THE HUGE PICS, ITS THAT BIG ON THEIR SITE.

I dont think using a longer barrel would help much in the accuracy department, not while using that cheap surplus ammo.

NEA is coming out with a shorter barrel for the cz, give charles a shout, maybe he can make you a custom barrel ;)

Darn. Well then, I guess it's time to scrap THAT project lol.

Darn semi auto soviet style rifles, with their lack of precision in any dept. *shakes fist* lol

Not like you really need a precision rifle for coyotes, do you? how far do you hunt em at?

Mount a POSP scope on that bad boy and it will be accurate enough without having to swap a barrel.

I was DEFINITELY thinking about doing that...but everyone has ney-sayed me so far, saying the rifle is not acurate enough, etc.

Crap, but it's so cheap to shoot and use for practice!

How much is the scope and mount? (I mean there are a ton of options on that site...what would the best be for me? Do you have one set up like that?)

With Silver Box Norc I can hit a 12"x12" gong all day long at Poco. Actually I'll be there in a few hour's if you want to come and see. But as for making the X39 round pecise I wish you the best of luck in that due to the nature of the bullets design.

I saw your other post so here is what I think of your situation:
You will pay more for the mount and getting it drilled and tapped than you would for a Stevens 200! And you will never get the same accuracy out of the CZ as you will with the bolt gun. My $320 Stevens 200 will shoot MOA with factory Remington UMC crap! With handloads 1/2 MOA and less is expected! And yes the surplus is cheap but I wouldnt hunt with it even if it is just coyotes. You would have to be buying soft point 7.62 x 39 which will run you almost twice what some cheap .223 will cost you.

See that's what I was thinking too... I have another thread going about coyote rifles in the hunting section, and I was being told to get a savage bolt in a .2XX caliber (I am leaning towards 243), and that it will be more cost effective that doing anything with my CZ....price wise and accuracy wise better decision.

I disagree, the shape of the case and what's stamped on the casehead have vuritually NOTHING to do with the end result of how accurate your rifle is. Ammo quality and constancy and rifle are 99.8% of your accuracy equation.

In a quality platform, shooting ammo built for accuracy 7.62x39mm is every bit as accurate as any other cartridge you care to name. I have a purpose built 7.62x39mm bench gun that will hold 5shot groups within 0.35 MOA all the way out to 300m if I do my part. My better 100yd groups are well under .3 MOA. Granted this isn't shooting factory ammo but it's still 7.62x39 loaded on factory cases using unmodified dies.

But to say that 7.62x39 can't be accurate because...um...well... it's 7.62x39 is patently false.

LOL!!!
Anything less than 300 meter's the bullet is alright but after that it drop's right off like a rock and this is a fact not fiction. Plus the lack of powder make's this bullet very, very hard to get constancy from. Secondly a bench gun (probaly tricked out to the 9's) with custom hand loads get's you 0.35 MOA from a 5 shot group. I would like to believe that, maybe it's true maybe not. All in all even you must agree that this rifle is not design to be a 0.35 MOA rifle and the x39 round wouldn't be your fist pic for a round ment for precision rifle.

Precision rifle may be a bit of a stretch for the 58 platform, but I'm thinking these would be more accurate than the average.

Not mine, and I'm thinking that getting one may be next to impossible......:)D)

WHAT ARE THOSE?!!! is that an entire receiver and barrel assembly!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

I WANT ONE NOW. LOL

I should look into the NEIT mount...but at 200$...jeebus, I am not sure if I would...maybe I can make my own mounting system...I am pretty inventive :)
