Pulling Swedish Mauser's Bolt

Okay :redface: ,I have to admit - I have no idea how to get the dang thing out of the rifle (long Swede, 1906-marked Gustav) ! :(

It's probably easy, but I have no clue; the last milsurp bolt-action that was confusing to me was the Steyr-Mannlicher (push the trigger forward to get that bolt to slide out), but this time I think it's actually something on the bolt that I need to figure-in? :yingyang:

All the Mausers I have handled have a little square shaped lever on the left side of the receiver. You must pull the lever away from the receiver in order to get the bolt out.

This works for ALMOST all Mausers.

Model 1871, 1871/84 and the 1888 Commission Rifle (basically a Mauser) were different.

For 1888, push the FRONT of the catch forward and slide bolt out to rear.

For 1871, you loosen the forward screw in the bolt, lift the collar, pull the trigger, then remove bolt from rear. This leaves the bolthead and extractor in trhe receiver to be shaken loose. Eighty-four is similar to the '71.

My "difficulty" was that the "lever" was so flush with the (rearmost part of the) receiver, that I must have missed it so many times....:redface:....instead of trying to push down on it, I finally realized that it pulls away, to the (left) side.....:yingyang:

On my 84s the bolt head and extractors come out with the bolt.
 
Neat little trick I found for removing the bolt on the 71 and 71/84s is to push the selector switch half way between the two settings, unscrew the screw as far as it will go, lift the retaining ring and hold it with my finger, than press the selector switch forward while pulling the bolt back.
