What exactly is the target market of these?

I can somewhat understand the appeal of the compact semi-auto Deerfield Carbine (basically a .44 Mag Mini-14/M1 carbine with a rotary mag), but why would someone specifically want a typical bolt-action rifle in .44 Mag?
Ruger supposedly discontinued the Deerfield Carbine due to low sales, and then they release a .44 Mag boltgun?

The .44 Mag is not a cheap round - factory ammunition is between $1.00-2.00 per round. Performance is below even a 30-30. if someone needs a brush gun why would they choose one of these over, say, a compact lever or bolt gun chambered for a rifle cartridge (Marlin 336BL for example, for $200 less).

My wife uses a 96 Ruger lever gun in 44 Mag as a close range deer rifle.
She might like a bolt gun like that.
But you're right, I don't see a big market, except maybe those addicted to bolt guns, that absolutely must have a 44Mag, to match their handgun.

I see its uses, for sure. Bolt actions are the strongest actions available, and the .44 Mag has a lot going for it the .30-30 doesn't, like bore size and bullet weight range, and the ability to load 300gr heavy subsonics. Bolt guns are also generally more accurate than their lever counterparts, and especially more so than semis. I, and many other choose bolt guns over levers, and this little carbine fits that niche.

Now, as for ammo cost, who cares. 90% of us here reload, or should, so it's a moot point it all costs the same .30-30 or .44. .44 even handles cast better. There's a good few trappers and bushmen up here who'd love that little rifle I'm sure and would curse the old semi deerfield carbine.

I've noticed Ellwood Epps brings in 3 at one time and they usually sell pretty quick. I wouldn't mind having one for close encounters... :D I much prefer the bolt action to the lever....

Why not?
Why would anyone want an AR platform rifle when an SKS can be hunted with?
Why would anyone want a 338 Lapua Mag when a 30-06 will probably do the job?

I'd like to have one. I like pistol cartridges, I like rifles. I like the better accuracy of bolt guns. I like the unusual.

44 Magnum....good!
Bolt action rifle....good!
It's all GOOD!

Not sure where you get ammo, put it seems like you're getting your pants pulled down over the price.... $1.00 bullet? o_O

It's a good way to get a kid started, if you have the $$. I have a niece and nephew that both have shot their first deer with my marlin 357. No recoil for a light weight or someone who's had health issues.
Clint
PS will own one someday to add to my Ruger collection

it would make a great tree stand gun for deer and bear .ladys and kids could realy get a lot of use out of a gun like this but then so could i hahah nice DUTCH
