Savage 340 scope mount help.

Good day,
Got a "newbie" question for you.
I just bought a used Savage 340 in 30-30.
I would like to put a scope on it.
Just wondering if any of you could offer me advice on what I should buy next. I have gone ahead and purchased a Weaver side mount #1, what else will I need?

Is that just the base for your rifle or did it come with the ring set up as well? It should have come as a complete kit and all that's left is to mount your scope. I can check my 222 this weekend up at the farm but that's the soonest I can be of help.

If it isn't already drilled and tapped you need that done as well as have some stock material removed for the base to fit.

I have an old Tasco 3-9x40 on my 22 hornet in 340 Savage.

Hmmmmm
I was told it was drilled and tapped, and there are some tapped holes on the left side. The only thing is there are only 2 holes drilled and tapped and the weaver #1 mount does not line up with the existing holes.
Oh man, now what?

If the mount covers the tapped holes, but just doesn't fit, you'll have to drill holes in the mount. Maybe just one. Not a big job if you have, or know someone who does have, a small post drill.

Pics would help some had two holes drilled and tapped for a peep sight.The # 1 side plate is correct and you also need a set of Weaver side mt rings that attach to the base.Could be a home done job as well?Harold ......Savage also made a crude caveman one piece mt.............

Try a Weaver base part # 48401 should work for you and Weaver Rings part # 49350

SOunds like it may have been drilled for the Weaver T mount, it uses only two holes, this is a one piece stamped steel like this:

What is the hole spacing?

The hole spacing is at the rear and close together.
I do believe its and older model 340 with the tapping done for a peep site.

this is what the mounts look like on my 222.you can also see one of the holes for the peepsite as well.
